Bldg Environmental Technician Working Title Landscaper (Pooled Posting) Competency Level Advanced Home Department Landscaping - 35211 Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The Landscape Department is a part of the Office of Facilities, Physical Plant Department, and Business Affairs Section of the University. This unit provides support for the maintenance and operations of all University grounds. The primary purpose of the Landscape Services Section of the Physical Plant Department is to develop and maintain the grounds and related systems of the main campus and remote areas at such a level of appearance as will attract and enhance the day-to-day lives of students, faculty, and staff and thereby promote morale and engender community price, and provide maintenance, repair and refueling services to the university and other state-owned and operated vehicles, and keep them in safe operating condition. Recycling solid waste to reduce total volume is one of the primary purposes of the Landscape Services section. Location of Workplace Main UNCW Campus Brief Summary of Work for this Position The Landscaper performs skilled grounds maintenance, including new landscaping, edging, pruning, mowing, general manicuring of all university grounds, parking lot maintenance, trash pick-up, and other associated duties as determined by the supervisor or administration. Under the direction of the Landscape Department Supervisor, responsibilities include coordination of grounds maintenance work activity with other Campus Services and Physical Plant sections, and with various University Departments. This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may operate on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow, ice, and/or debris removal under the direction of a supervisor. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preferred education, professional skills and experience Ability to follow directions and learn new skills while on the job. Completion of grammar school and one-year of related experience. A working knowledge of landscape maintenance and the ability to operate large and small equipment. Ability to follow directions and learn new skills while on the job. Required Certifications or licensure Valid NC Driver's License. NCDA Turf & Ornamental pesticide license, or the ability to obtain within 90 days
