Description:
The City of Piqua is seeking an Equipment Operator I in our Public Works Department. This position operates equipment to perform Public Works maintenance functions; performs equipment/vehicle maintenance; performs general labor tasks; maintains facilities and equipment; maintains overall attractive appearance of City paths, grounds, and facilities and equipment; performs other duties as required.
Examples of Work Performed:
Performs general labor tasks (e.g., sets up City events and tears down as assigned; etc.); collects trash and tree limbs from city properties as part of a collection crew (e.g., lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls tree limbs weighing up to 100 pounds; etc.); loads and unloads heavy materials from trucks; moves, or aids in moving, heavy boxes or equipment; paints tables, benches, and other equipment; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; performs periodic inspections of facilities and equipment; performs routine cleaning and maintenance, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance of facilities and equipment. Operates light and medium equipment to perform street maintenance functions and related work activities (e.g., cub size tractors, crazy arm tractor, gas and diesel dump trucks, front end loaders, air compressor, tar distributor, cement mixer, etc.); performs street patching or construction work; operates traffic stripe remover equipment and street striping equipment and erects sign posts and signs on and emergency basis; operates tractors with rotary mowing attachments and small power mowers; operates pickup truck or dump truck to haul gravel, asphalt, brick, fill dirt, and construction and maintenance materials; operates truck to plow snow and spread salt; cuts, loads, and hauls trees; flags traffic at work sites;
EQUIPMENT OPERATED
The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Lawn mowing and maintenance equipment; chain saws; weed eaters; tampers; jack hammer; medium and heavy duty truck; gas and diesel dump trucks, front end loader, back hoe, skid steer, roller, and crack sealer; air compressor; and other Public Works equipment as needed.
Requirements:
Must possess a valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with air brakes endorsement. Completion of secondary education (high school) and experience in the operation and limited maintenance of light to medium grade construction and maintenance equipment; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Position Type /

Permanent, 40 hours per week, 4 - 10 hour days based on seasonal and/or operational needs
Wage Rate:
Hourly rate is $25.50 - 26.72 an hour DOQ. How to
