Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Under close supervision performs labor of manual nature, such as moving of equipment and furniture, cleaning of storm drains and curbs, the raking and removal of leaves, and removal of snow and the application of ice control materials. b. Operates basic power tools such as push lawn mowers, power lawn trimmers, edgers, and leaf/trash blowers. c. Under close supervision operates light and medium equipment assigned to Grounds Division. d. Help identifies and corrects problems of plants, grasses, trees, and shrubs. e. Applies fertilizers and weed control materials by hand or push spreader. f. Transport of materials and specialty tools to work sites. g. Cleans tools and returns same to proper location; cleans work site. h. Removes snow, including the operation of salt spreaders i. Notifies supervisor of all defects, problem areas, and safety hazards related to grounds/landscape. j. Assists with various tasks as directed by the tradesperson/maintenance person assigned to the project. k. Assists in furniture and event set ups and breakdowns, decorations for special functions, meetings, etc. l. Performs other duties assigned within the normal scope of the department's responsibilities and the individual's capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
a. HS diploma or equivalent and be able to exhibit acceptable life experiences in ground gardening and horticultural work. b. Must have and maintain a valid State driver's license and meet all requirements of the University Driving Policies. Failure to be able to qualify for operation of a motor vehicle in either of these categories, will result in a demotion down to an appropriate qualifying level not requiring operation of a university vehicle. c. Must have the ability to follow both verbal and written directions in English; the ability to interact with students, faculty, administration, and staff in a professional and positive manner, as well as the ability to read and understand OSHA guidelines such as Material Safety Data Sheets, equipment safety data plates, fuel/chemical flash points, etc. d. Must have the physical ability to climb ladders, to bend, reach, crawl, and lift up to 60 lbs.; the ability to work in enclosed spaces. e. Must not have any disciplinary actions on file within the previous twelve months of ing for this position.
