Job Description

Under general supervision, the Trades worker assists the Crew Chief in maintaining Horry County grounds in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. Performs a variety of groundskeeping duties using manual labor and powered equipment. Requires compliance with safety guidelines and ability to work harmoniously with others.
Perform grounds maintenance:
mow lawns, trim hedges and ditches, maintain flowerbeds and retention ponds. Edge sidewalks, clear debris from walkways and parking areas, and apply fertilizer and chemicals. Dig, plant, and landscape new areas; remove dead foliage and trees. Assist in site work including grading, cleaning gutters, and moving landscape materials. Complete daily and weekly reports including work logs, mileage logs, and gas receipts.
Operate various tools and equipment:
mowers, trimmers, blowers, tractors, skid loaders, chainsaws, and more. Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) daily. Perform minor equipment repairs and maintain tools as required. Comply with all Horry County and departmental policies and procedures. Erect work zone traffic control devices. Working knowledge of grounds maintenance practices, including safe equipment operation and landscaping techniques. Ability to follow instructions, maintain records, perform physical labor, and work cooperatively within a team environment. Requires high school diploma or equivalent. One (1) to two (2) years of grounds maintenance experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be capable of operating a vehicle with a long utility trailer.
