Experienced Ground Support for Tree Climber

Job Overview:

As a Ground Support for Tree Climber, you will be responsible for assisting tree climbers by managing ropes, equipment, and ensuring safety protocols are followed during the climbing and cutting process. Your role is vital to maintaining the security and efficiency of the climb, and you will work closely with the climber to ensure smooth operations throughout the day. Candidate MUST have valid driver's license and speak English.

Key Responsibilities:

Rope Management:

Assist with the preparation, setup, and management of ropes used by climbers. Monitor and adjust the ropes during the climb to ensure safety and functionality. Ensure the ropes are properly tied, anchored, and tensioned before and during the climb.

Safety Oversight:

Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including securing the area and ensuring the climber's equipment is correctly set up. Conduct pre-climb safety checks of all equipment and ensure ground hazards are mitigated. Be prepared to assist in an emergency situation, including assisting with rope retrieval or supporting rescue efforts if necessary.

Equipment Handling:

Manage and organize climbing gear such as ropes, harnesses, helmets, and tools. Ensure that all equipment is in proper working condition and ready for use before and after the climb. Bobcat/Avant Experience preferred.

Communication:

Maintain clear communication with the climber via radio or other signaling methods to ensure both the climber and the ground support team are in sync. Provide support in the form of guidance or adjustments to the climber as needed during the climbing process.

Logistics:

Assist with the transportation of climbing equipment and tools to and from the job site. Ensure all gear is safely stored and properly handled when not in use.

General Support:

Help in removing branches and debris from the ground during and after the climb. Assist the climber with any additional needs such as rope management, equipment hand-off, or securing tools.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Safety Awareness:

A strong understanding of safety procedures related to climbing and rope work.

Physical Fitness:

Ability to perform physical tasks and move heavy equipment safely.

Communication Skills:

Ability to effectively communicate with the climber and the rest of the team. Experience with

Ropes and Climbing Gear:

Prior experience with rope handling, climbing, or working in tree care is helpful but not always necessary.

Problem Solving:

Ability to troubleshoot issues with equipment or setup during the climb.

Teamwork:

Must be able to work as part of a team, following the climber's lead while ensuring safety and efficiency.

Working Conditions:

The role involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions and requires physical stamina. The work schedule may be unpredictable and can vary depending on the needs of the project. Ground support staff may need to be on their feet for extended periods and may be required to assist with manual labor tasks. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and success of tree climbing activities, especially for tasks such as pruning, tree removal, or inspections.
