Job Description

Job Summary:
Responsible for the maintenance and Parks, Right-of-ways, City owned properties, and Facilities.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Essential duties and functions may include the following. Must possess required knowledge skills, abilities and experience and to be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Other related duties may be assigned. 1. Maintains grounds by picking up litter; cleaning and repairing restrooms; emptying trash cans; maintaining athletic fields; mowing grass; trimming trees; pulling weeds; planting shrubs and flowers; maintaining parks, right-of-ways, and facilities. 2. Utilizes a variety of common landscape and grounds maintenance equipment, such as zero turn mowers, edgers, string trimmers, chainsaws, pole saws, sprayers, pressure washers, trucks, trailers, and tractor mowers. 3. Maintains grounds by pressure washing solid surfaces, removing graffiti, assisting with irrigation repair work, painting park amenities, applying pesticide products, laying mulch, and pulling weeds. 4. Work in extreme weather conditions hot, cold, assisting with maintaining roadways and drainages during weather events. 5. Occasional after hours events and overtime.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance and emergency repair
  • Proficient knowledge of methods, techniques and safety precautions involved in the operation of heavy and basic grounds equipment.
  • Proficient skills to produce finished quality maintenance repair with minimum rework.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a positive working relationship with staff, fellow employees, elected officials, supervisors, citizens, business and community groups.
  • Basic understanding of problem solving and conflict management technique
  • Basic understanding of excellent customer relations practices
  • Basic skills to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using proper business English
  • Basic understanding of City safety rules and operating procedures
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The incumbent performs work in both an indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to hazardous and unpleasant conditions in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather, some exposure to dust, odor, electrical, mechanical, and toxic hazards. ? Work requires frequent stooping and climbing, lifting 100 pounds, standing, walking, sitting, twisting, pulling, pushing, climbing up to 12 feet, and working in tight or confined areas. ? The incumbent may be required to walk through brush or entangled areas along creeks and other areas and in close proximity to high-speed vehicle traffic. ? Required to work some nights and weekends, during extreme weather and/or emergency situations and to be on call.
