JOB SUMMARY

Mows all City property and maintains the Harker Heights Community Center. Operates light equipment and performs extensive manual labor; performs related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Crew Leader and the Parks and Facility Operations Superintendent.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

None.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Operates a jackhammer, lawn mower, power saw, buffer machine, chain saw, weed eater, grass mower, riding mowers, hand tools, tractors, and light trucks. 2. Cleans and maintains Community Center bathrooms and other City facilities. 3. Cleans and maintains parks, mows esplanades and other City property. 4. Performs preventative maintenance on tools and equipment. 5. Performs minor painting, plumbing, and maintenance. 6. Cleans and stocks trucks. 7. Loads and unloads various lawn maintenance equipment and related materials; performs yard clean-up. 8. Attendance is an essential function of this job. 9. Exhibits the City of Harker Heights Core Values. 10. And all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma, or GED; Possess or ability to obtain a Texas Drivers License. A minimum of six months experience in performing construction work requiring the use of equipment similar to or the same as assigned to this position.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of routine park and building maintenance. Knowledge of applicable safety procedures and practices.

SKILLS:

Skill in performing work requiring strength and agility in all weather conditions; skill in lifting heavy objects; skill in preventative and minor maintenance repair on tools and equipment; skill in operating the assigned equipment; skill in using hand tools to perform manual labor tasks.

ABILITIES

Ability to communicate orally. Ability to follow oral directions; ability to identify and correct potential safety hazards; ability to manipulate things with the hands; ability to coordinate hand and foot movements; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to maintain physical activity over prolonged periods of time; ability to lift, push, and load/unload heavy objects; ability to regularly lift objects approximately 50 to 120 pounds. Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above required knowledge, skills and abilities is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Works effectively with other employees to mow, maintain and clean City parks, Community Center and City property. Operates mowers, tractors, and weed eater. Uses various indoor equipment, buffers, mops, etc. Cleans bathrooms, waxes and buffs floors, cleans Community Center. Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly; hear clearly when working around equipment or in street and alley traffic, using proper safety precautions; lifts and carries up to 50 pounds, and pulls, pushes, or drags up to 120 pounds of installation and repair equipment or materials; climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, twists, bends and stoops for extended periods of time. Work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather; some exposure to mechanical, electrical, explosive, fume, odor, dust, chemical, and toxic waste hazards. Hear and see clearly when working in and around traffic while using proper safety precautions. Communicates effectively with the public and other city employees.
