Job Description
Equipment Operator (Drainage)
Operates heavy equipment, trucks, small engine equipment, and hand tools essential to drainage and rights-of-way maintenance.
Places and finishes concrete for minor construction and repair of drainage infrastructure.
Properly manages debris removed from drainage infrastructure and public rights-of-ways.
Conducts safety and maintenance checks on assigned equipment and machinery.
Performs preventative maintenance on all assigned equipment.
Performs preventive and minor repair to small and large equipment.
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.
Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations; possesses and maintains a valid driver's license, if required, and comply with City of Killeen driving policy accordingly.
Performs other duties, as assigned.
Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.
Ability to observe proper safety precautions.
Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to equipment operations.
Working knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in drainage maintenance work.
Considerable knowledge of construction machinery operating principles.
Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions.
Ability to drive and operate a variety of equipment under varying conditions; andMaintains regular and punctual attendance.
GENERAL PURPOSE
To operate a variety of equipment and vehicles used in construction, maintenance, and repair activities; performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of drainage utility infrastructure and public rights-of-way for the City of KilleenSUPERVISION EXERCISED
Employee may be responsible for all duties and supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Crew Leader.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CORE COMPETENCIES
Operates machinery of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of equipment, materials, and supplies.Operates heavy equipment, trucks, small engine equipment, and hand tools essential to drainage and rights-of-way maintenance.
Places and finishes concrete for minor construction and repair of drainage infrastructure.
Properly manages debris removed from drainage infrastructure and public rights-of-ways.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or equivalent; and, One (1) year of experience involving the use of light to heavy equipment.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.
