Under general supervision of the Parks Crew Leader, this position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain and enhance the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of city parks, recreational areas, and related facilities. This role requires physical endurance, adaptability to changing conditions, and a commitment to public service. This position does not supervise any positions.

Performs park maintenance, sanitation, construction, demolition, repair, and preparation of City parks, facilities, and other City properties; Operates a wide variety of equipment, such as but not limited to mowers, tractors, drills, augers, weed trimmers, tillers, and various power equipment in the maintenance and operations of park properties; Performs a wide variety of activities in support of park and grounds maintenance, including removing graffiti, construction, demolition, repair, installing landscape areas, installing irrigation lines, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, power washing pavilions, walls, sidewalks, and restrooms; Performs grounds maintenance duties, including mowing grass, operating a weed eater, installing, trimming and removing landscape materials, monitoring and maintaining debris and litter in the parks; Performs a wide variety of activities in support of playground areas, including installing park fixtures and playground equipment; inspecting and repairing playground equipment and surface materials; Performs activities related to special events, athletic tournaments, dance setups, and other functions; Inspects assigned areas, corrects and/or reports safety hazards; Assist parks crews in the daily execution of assignments; Load and unload materials and equipment; Occasionally operate park maintenance equipment, including tractors, dump trucks or other light equipment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Experience and knowledge with a wide variety of basic equipment safety and operation standards and procedures; basic irrigation installation, repair, and operation; fundamental landscape/grounds maintenance and gardening practices; basic building maintenance; and basic sanitation practices; Ability to operate park equipment, including mowers, trimmers, edgers, chainsaws, spreaders, blowers, trenchers, hand tools, I.E., shovels, rakes, spades, pruning tools and other tools used in landscape maintenance; Ability to analyze problems and plan solutions; Ability to maintain records on materials needed and used.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED; Must be 18 years or older; Must be able to speak, read, and write in the English language; Valid Texas class C driver's license is required with a good driving record.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Previous landscape, ball field, or park maintenance experience requiring the use of similar equipment to this position; Basic working knowledge of materials, including plant materials, soil amendments, irrigation, fertilizers and pesticides. NOTE Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable and proven proficiency levels in the above required knowledge, skills, abilities, or licensing could be considered as a possible substitute for the above industry-specific training or experience requirements for this position.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Very heavy work. Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Ability to work inside and outside, exposure to varying weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, temperature swings, rain, etc.), exposure to sun, exposure to moving objects, operating assigned vehicles, movement on uneven terrain and park areas, and occasionally irregular work hours including weekend, holiday, evening hours and overtime, as needed; While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, run, crouch, bend, stoop, kneel and lift; Work with frequent interruptions; Demonstrate patience and flexibility in changing job demands and when interacting with employees, visitors, and the public; Ability to maintain emotional control under stress; Manipulate and perform good hand, eye, and foot coordination, mobility and dexterity; Maintain physical activity and mental alertness over prolonged periods of time; Manipulate and load/unload heavy objects; Effectively communicate, both orally and in written form; Maintain effective working relationships and represent the City in a positive manner at all times while engaged with City staff and Citizenry. Inspects assigned areas, corrects and/or reports safety hazards; May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster; Requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required; Other duties as assigned.
