Hiring Salary:
$33,579-$47,011 The Facilities Management Department is seeking a qualified individual to join our team as a full-time Groundskeeper for Gloucester County. This position offers the opportunity to work outdoors independently and engage with the community. The Groundskeeper performs a variety of routine and seasonal landscaping tasks to develop and maintain County grounds. Work involves using a variety of procedures, power and hand equipment, and supplies to maintain lawns, shrubs, flower beds and other green areas in a presentable manner. Employee must exercise independent judgment in completion of tasks and the position reports to the Grounds Technician. Ensures County buildings are opened and all flags are hoisted and taken down daily. Loads and unloads custodial supplies and equipment on trucks, transports equipment and supplies to other facilities. Landscapes new areas of lawn and mulch beds to include replacing topsoil, grading, seeding, and fertilizing. Recognizes need and uses proper methods to eradicate weeds and grass as appropriate from County grounds. Identifies pest infestation, plant and turf damage; determine causes and treat accordingly. Prepares and maintains a variety of logs and reports such as inspection reports, equipment reports, etc. Orders supplies and tracks inventory. Performs custodial duties as requested, including moving office furniture, replacing light bulbs, etc. Performs snow removal as needed. This may include periods during and after snow events including nonscheduled workdays to include weekends and holidays. Performs other duties as assigned. Possession of a high school diploma/GED. Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of experience in landscaping work. Possession of a valid driver's license; possess and maintain a driving record that meets established Gloucester County Driving Standards. Pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical. Position subject to subsequent physical examinations to ensure incumbent meets physical job requirements. May be required to obtain Certified Fertilizer Applicator (CFA) certification from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services within 12 months of employment.
