Non-Exempt Job Summary Position is responsible for routine work in caring for and the maintenance of school grounds. Essential Duties To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities, who are otherwise qualified, to perform the duties herein described. Trims shrubbery and maintains shrubs and flower beds. Mows, seeds, and fertilizes lawns. Operates a variety of automotive and landscaping equipment. Assists with custodial duties, carpentry, repair of landscaping equipment, and painting. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualification High school diploma or GED equivalent. Valid driver's license. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to follow rough sketches and oral instruction. Knowledge of methods and equipment in the care or maintenance of school grounds and/or the ability to be trained in the area of landscape maintenance. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Must have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to operate landscaping equipment; see and read equipment indications and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal room levels and outdoors; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal rooms and outdoors; physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; and to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and reach overhead. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties are normally performed in an outdoor or school environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
