  • Road Maintenance Skilled work in the operation of moderately complex spraying equipment.
Must comply with state regulations on herbicide and pesticide spraying in the County including normal maintenance associated with spraying. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Director.
Responsibilities:
Sprays pesticides and herbicides on County turf. Acquire and maintain Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for all chemicals. Keep records of all spraying. Determine the type and amount of chemical to spray for various problems that can occur. Determine when and where to spray chemicals to protect the health of the public. Notify the public if any chemicals are used on the "chemically sensitive" list established by the State Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Performs chemical/mechanical control of aquatic weeds in mitigation areas. Determines appropriate times and schedule for spraying based on growth season characteristics, condition of water and/or soil to be treated, weather conditions, wind and other variables. Selects and mixes appropriate chemical agents considering infestation, environment and vegetation. Operates spray equipment using proper application techniques and procedures. Operates and maintains equipment used in chemical treatment operations including trucks, motors and various types of spray apparatus. Performs related work as assigned or required.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or acceptable equivalency Must have minimum of two years herbicide spray equipment operation/application (or equivalent combination of related education, training and/or experience). Must have valid Florida Driver's license. Restricted Use Applicator Pesticide License (commercial or public) Aquatic Weed Control and Right-of-Way Control License (Department of Agriculture).
