The Fertilizer Technician applies fertilizers and herbicides to customers' properties
Essential Functions:
- Apply fertilizer and herbicide chemicals
- Use past experience and knowledge to identify the best course of treatment for needed results
- Make recommendations to cure any problem along with adjusting applications to each site's specific needs.
- Maintaining proper logs of chemical applications
- Light maintenance on common fertilization equipment
- Maintaining multiple landscape sites under the guidance of a supervisor
- Maintaining a safe work environment
- Filling out LMN
- Filling out pesticide receipts and other required reports

Detail Processes:
This position oversees when and how fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides are applied to lawn. They make judgements based on weather forecasts and on the health of the lawn.
Work Environment:
The majority of the work is done outside. While performing the duties of this job, the employee uses potentially harmful chemicals. Proper safety procedures must be followed when applying or handling all chemicals. MSDS sheets are available at the
TCLA & ESG
office. The position regularly works outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. This position requires the use of safety equipment such as but not limited to ear protection, long sleeves, pants, gloves, eye protection, respirators, etc… Indoor work will be in an office environment or in a shop setting. While in the shop setting they can be exposed to loud noises, fumes and moving mechanical parts.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body; be able to reach overhead; be able to work in various positions, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time; be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks; and be able to frequently lift 50 pounds of weight throughout the assigned workday. This position carries a fertilizer dispenser weighing 40 lbs or more on their back throughout the day. This may be on their back for more than an hour at a time. Required Education and/or
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent work experience. Horticulture knowledge is necessary. Previous turf management experience of 1-3 years.
Eligibility Qualifications:
Required:
valid Chauffeur's license, State of Michigan Certifications 3A, 3B, and 6
Preferred:
CDL License, LIC (Landscape Industry Certified)
