Job Summary:
The Union County Vector Control district is looking for people to fill the seasonal positions for the 2026 summer season.
Pesticide Applicator:
This position will last approximately from April to the end of September. Duties will include but are not limited to inspection and treatment, if required, of larval breeding sources of mosquitoes throughout Union County. Also, any action required to reduce breeding sources of mosquitoes in Union County. In addition, the person hired will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining district equipment. Other tasks may include help with surveillance activities, clean-up, and running errands. All positions are dependent on the number of mosquitoes and complaints throughout the district. In the same respects if work is slow all positions may have a work week less than 40 hours.
Hours:
The normal operating hours for the district will be Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M to 4:30 P.M. However, longer hours are possible depending on the areas requiring treatment. The majority of the work done takes place outdoors; therefore, weather conditions can also play a role in how many hours are worked each day or week. Typically, if one day of the week is cut short it will be on Friday, unless it is cut short due to weather conditions.
Qualifications:
Class C driver's license with acceptable driving record to operate company vehicles. Applicants must be able to repeatedly lift and carry 50 lbs. of weight, also they must have the ability to be self-motivated and make decisions working alone. Applicants must also be comfortable around wild and domestic animals. The applicants must have good balance while wearing a heavy pack in swamp-like areas and have ability to cross fences while doing so. Applicant must pass both Oregon pesticide applicator exams within three attempts. Exams will be paid for as well as your hourly time while taking the exams. Failure to pass the exams within three attempts will result in immediate termination.
Wage:
Will start out at $16.05 per hour and increase to $18.05 per hour when notice is confirmed that the employee has passed the two required exams to be certified pesticide applicators. Returning employees will receive a $1 per hour pay increase each year they return for a maximum of 4 years ($22.05/hour).
