Greenhouse Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY
The Greenhouse Coordinator (GHC) is responsible for coordinating, maintaining and fulfilling all of the greenhouse and propagation needs for The Ecology Center's Farm production and Nursery. The GHC is the primary caretaker of the seeds and plants from the time of seeding through the transplant stage or for sale to the nursery. In addition, the GHC will be responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, sanitary and healthy work environment for both the plants and people.
Essential Qualifications:
(Including but not limited to) – Ability to work independently in an outdoor setting during various weather conditions. – Organized and able to follow a crop plan, prioritize critical tasks and work in a focused, timely, and efficient manner – Be a team player, support your coworkers and maintain a positive, professional attitude – Knowledge of basic organic nursery practices and crop production – 1-2 years of experience with Greenhouse propagation work and a familiarity with Sexual and asexual propagation techniques, Soil Media and propagation mixes – Basic Organic horticultural knowledge – Common pests and diseases that affect crop production – Common greenhouse/nursery equipment including: Vacuum seeders, irrigation equipment, prop trays etc. – Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and perform physical tasks associated with farm work. – Be in possession of a current California's Driver's License and auto insurance, as well as reliable transportation to the farm. – Must be willing to maintain a flexible work schedule, working weekends and evenings when needed. – Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. – Familiarity with using spreadsheets
Duties and Responsibilities:
– Follow the Crop Production Plan and execute weekly sowings according to the production plan – Create and implement the weekly greenhouse work plan and update daily task tickets for chore management – Coordinate day-to-day production of crops in the greenhouse including seeding, irrigating, thinning, fertilizing, and pest management by following daily/weekly Greenhouse SOPs. – Create and implement the weekly greenhouse work plan and update daily task tickets for chore management – Organize and supervise the greenhouse work of Apprentices and Volunteers. – Keep thorough, accurate weekly seeding, fertilizing, spraying and other cultural records – Sow and up-pot annuals and propagate perennials for sale in the nursery – Appropriately label, organize and distribute transplants and nursery sale crops to each department – Assist program managers with monitoring seed stock and maintaining appropriate levels of inventory – Assist program managers with maintaining in good supply all Greenhouse supplies such as propagation trays, potting soil, amendments, labeling supplies, etc – Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary Greenhouse environment. – Ensure a safe workplace and address safety issues as they arise – Maintain a professional work environment that fosters a collaborative team spirit with respect for each individual Email your resume to carra@theecologycenter.org with "Greenhouse Coordinator" as the email subject.
