The Senior Park Aide reporting location is Shasta State Historic Park at 15312 Highway 299, Shasta CA. This position will also support operations at the Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park. The Senior Park Aide works under the supervision of the State Park Interpreter III and under the general direction of the State Park Interpreter I. The SPA supports the daily operation of the park museums and day use areas. The SPA prepares accounting, attendance, and volunteer reports; checks park facilities and reports problems; handles minor visitor complaints; explains park policies and regulations to the visiting public; answers routine questions from the public; coordinates occasional housekeeping activities; may give instruction in the safe and proper use of housekeeping supplies; trains other seasonal employees; inspects completed work for quality control and conformance to established standards; performs merchandise sales; provides excellent customer service. The SPA assists visitors by communicating interpretive knowledge and provides the public with general information including but not limited to historical significance, relevance, and importance of cultural and natural preservation. Provides tours of museum exhibits and other park features. Presents school programs and tours. Assists with developing and installing exhibits. Helps organize and present special events and promote them. This position may be called on to support special events at other units within the district.

This is a uniformed position, and the successful candidates will be required to purchase and wear a State Parks uniform. The Senior Park Aide is expected to work weekends, holidays, and evenings if necessary and assigned days off may vary from month to month. The normal work hours are 8-hour shifts occurring between the hours of 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, up to five days per week including weekends, holidays and during special events.

This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation 265.1. This position is designated as not telework eligible. The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment. Possession of a valid driver's license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)
