Job Description
JOB Performs intermediate paraprofessional work coordinating, developing, and monitoring athletic field schedules. Responsible for monitoring athletic and multipurpose field usage at parks and park facilities. Responsible for ensuring the Sports Complex and Shane Kelly Park are properly closed and locked each evening and ensures park equipment is secured at the end of each day; does related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of Parks Superintendent.
Ensures that contracted youth leagues certify coaches in accordance with National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) Certification and comply with statutory requirements for background checks for youth leagues. Serves as direct liaison to all youth sports programs that use City facilities, e.g., Oviedo Babe Ruth, Oviedo Little League, Central Florida Soccer Alliance, youth lacrosse programs.
Participates in meetings with Parks Manager, Park Superintendent, Assistant Director and league presidents to assist in developing and preparing annual contracts; provides feedback on field conditions and future maintenance needs. Monitors, inspects, and recommends all maintenance needed on scoreboards at all athletic facilities; serves as direct liaison with youth leagues to ensure proper operation of scoreboards and control panels. Monitors all sports lighting (softball, baseball, basketball, tennis, etc.), and parking lot lighting at all outdoor park facilities. Inspects and ensures proper functioning of all lighting and reports maintenance needs to appropriate staff when maintenance and repair work is needed. Determines fitness for use of all City athletic fields; determines if teams are properly assigned; ensures fields and facilities are prepared for games; performs periodic inspections of all grounds to ensure proper condition and maintenance; reports maintenance needs to appropriate staff; determines if facilities are to remain open during inclement weather.
Ensures and enforces proper care of equipment and facilities Recommends off-season maintenance on athletic fields to ensure readiness for upcoming season.
Monitors athletic and multipurpose field rentals; electronically develops and maintains master evening schedules weekly, monthly, and seasonally including games and practices. Opens and closes multiple facilities for the public and ensures field lights are turned on for evening games; communicates effectively with staff and the general public informing and educating them on the use of the facilities.
Assists with tournaments and special events as needed.
Maintains and prepares fields.
Assists with closing procedures for all City parks. Ensures all equipment is properly secured and locked up for the evening. Ensures lighting is turned off and secures gates of all City parks. Ensures grounds, rights of way, and facilities are free from debris, restrooms are clean and adequately supplied and trash emptied; May be required to perform Parks Maintenance duties during off-season and/or for operational needs including, mowing, grounds maintenance, minor repair work, custodial work, etc. Operates various hand tools in performance of tasks.
Serves as essential personnel during natural or man-made disasters and emergencies.
Performs related tasks as required.
