Job Description

The director position requires the candidate to coordinate, supervise, and review the logistics and execution of a variety of high quality programs and events. These include but not limited adult and youth sports programs, community events, and Paxton Park District facilities and grounds management. The right candidate will be able to manage the operations and employees of the Paxton Park District and report to the Paxton Park District Board of Commissioners.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Responsibilities include the development and management of high quality special programs and events, support and supervision of offerings, and other duties and projects as assigned by the Paxton Park District Board of Commissioners.
  • Prioritize, plan, coordinate, implement, supervise, and budget for the Paxton Park District.
  • Research and initiate new special events and programs.
  • Manage employees. Delegate when necessary and appropriate.
  • Maximize the effective use of facilities for programs, activities, and rentals; including but not limited to parks and sports fields.
  • Contribute to the development of plans for new and existing events and programs through website management, social media, and marketing.
  • Maintain and operate the district community swimming pool.
  • Effectively communicate with staff, volunteers, businesses, and community officials in the Paxton area.
  • Recruit, evaluate, guide, and hold employees accountable.
  • Procure bids, evaluate, guide, hold accountable contractors engaged by the Paxton Park District.
  • Provide resources and assistance for all district events to the Paxton area community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Paxton Park District Board of Commissioners.
  • Report to a Board Of Commissioners regularly regarding each of the Commissioners' committees.
  • Report monthly to the Paxton Park District Board of Commissioners at the Park District's monthly board meeting (and any special or emergency meetings as needed).
Preferred Education, Experience & Training:
  • Degree in Recreation Management, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in managing and supervising employees.
  • Experience in working for Governmental entities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to see and assimilate information from varied sources and make good decisions in a timely manner consistent with the goals, values, and vision of the Paxton Park District.
  • Ability to plan, organize and provide leadership to employees that will give them the tools necessary to fulfill the goals of the District.
  • Ability to demonstrate management and supervisory skills and delegate tasks to Park District employees.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Possess decision-making, conflict resolution, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and manage schedules.
  • Ability to perform Park District grounds mowing and maintenance.
  • Work independently and as a team member of the supervisory and administrative staff and community groups and other entities.
  • Understand and exhibit behavior consistent with stated values of the Paxton Park District.
  • Effective communication and responsiveness to the citizens of the district.
Work Environment :
  • Physical Demanding Job. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Exposed to both indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Maintain and operate equipment , including but not limited to mowers, power tools, and tractor.
  • Operate and maintain general office equipment, including but not limited to computers, phones, copiers, and printers.
Schedule 40 hours per week. Varies to include evenings, weekends, and seasonal events as needed. Salary varies based on qualifications
