City of Woodson Terrace, Missouri Public Works Laborer /
Park Ranger Pay:
$21.35 - $26.61 per hour Position Overview The City of Woodson Terrace is seeking a dependable, selfmotivated individual to serve as a Public Works Laborer / Park Ranger. This full-time position combines traditional Public Works maintenance responsibilities with park oversight and community engagement. The successful candidate will perform skilled and semi-skilled labor involving the maintenance of City streets, parks, recreational facilities, buildings, grounds, and infrastructure while serving as a visible presence in City parks to promote safety, assist visitors, identify maintenance needs, and report ordinance violations or suspicious activity. This position requires the ability to work independently, operate a variety of equipment, interact professionally with the public, and respond to emergencies and severe weather events.

Wednesday through Sunday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Additional Hours:
Emergency call-outs, snow and ice operations, special events, and other assignments as required. Key Responsibilities Public Works Perform snow and ice control operations, including operatingdump trucks, snowplows, salt spreaders, snow blowers, andrelated equipment. Perform street and roadway maintenance including potholerepair, patching, grading, paving, shoulder maintenance, streetsign installation, and tree removal. Maintain stormwater facilities, drainage structures, ditches,basins, channels, and swales. Assist with sewer-related call-outs and emergencyinfrastructure repairs. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on Cityvehicles, equipment, and tools. Install traffic control devices and establish safe work zonesusing proper flagging procedures. Mark utilities in accordance with Missouri One Callrequirements. Perform general building maintenance including minorplumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and facility repairs. Inspect, repair, and maintain playground equipment, shelters,athletic fields, and park amenities. Perform mowing, trimming, edging, fertilizing, tree care,landscaping, litter removal, and grounds maintenancethroughout City properties. Operate dump trucks, tractors, skid steers, mowers, chainsaws,hedge trimmers, string trimmers, power tools, and other PublicWorks equipment. Assist with community events, seasonal projects, emergencyresponse, and other departmental assignments. Park Ranger Patrol City parks, playgrounds, walking trails, parking lots, andrecreational facilities by foot or City vehicle. Serve as a visible and approachable representative of the City. Assist park visitors by providing directions, information, andcustomer service. Monitor parks for vandalism, suspicious activity, safety hazards,ordinance violations, damaged equipment, and maintenanceconcerns. Coordinate with the Woodson Terrace Police Departmentregarding emergencies, criminal activity, disturbances, orenforcement issues. Open and close park facilities as assigned. Assist with crowd management and public safety during Cityevents, festivals, and athletic activities. Inspect park facilities, playgrounds, restrooms, shelters,lighting, and walking paths for safety and cleanliness. Document and report hazards, graffiti, damaged equipment,lighting failures, and maintenance concerns. Promote compliance with park rules through positive publicinteraction and education. Assist during severe weather events and emergency situations. Required Competencies Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationshipswith coworkers and the public. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Knowledge of roadway maintenance, snow removal,groundskeeping, and municipal park operations. Ability to recognize safety hazards and respond appropriately. Ability to prepare accurate reports and communicateobservations. Basic computer skills. Ability to follow City policies, ordinances, OSHA regulations,MIRMA safety standards, and proper use of personal protectiveequipment. Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting,pushing, and pulling. Ability to patrol parks and perform manual labor throughout anentire shift. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 150pounds with assistance. Ability to operate vehicles, heavy equipment, power equipment,and hand tools safely. Ability to work outdoors during extreme heat, cold, rain, snow,ice, and other adverse weather conditions. Sufficient vision, hearing, balance, and mobility to safelyperform assigned duties. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age. Valid Missouri Driver License with the ability to obtain andmaintain a Missouri Class E License within three (3) months ofhire. Ability to pass a background investigation, pre-employmentphysical, and drug screening. Preferred Qualifications Experience in Public Works, parks maintenance, construction,landscaping, municipal government, or equipment operation. Experience in security, military, customer service, or publicsafety. Experience operating heavy equipment. Commercial Driver License (CDL) preferred. Work Environment Work is performed in the Public Works facility, City parks, municipalbuildings, recreational facilities, and throughout the City. Employeesare regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, loudequipment, moving traffic, uneven terrain, and emergency situationsrequiring sound judgment and professionalism.
