" The department serves a population exceeding one million residents and serves the City of Charlotte, six towns, and the unincorporated areas of the county covering 523 square miles. In addition, the department manages over 21,000 acres and 230+ parks, nature preserves, greenways and facilities. POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation is adding Temporary Sr Aquatic Specialists to the team! These lead positions will oversee a team of Lifeguards including their training and day-to-day activities, ensure the pools and surrounding areas are safe for visitors, and ensure swimmers remain well supervised. The incumbents will also participate in the maintenance and upkeep of the pool water by testing chemical levels and will be expected to complete and maintain records of weather conditions, emergency medical treatments performed, and other relevant incident information. The schedule for these temporary roles may vary and will be dependent on business needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist in supervision of activities in an aquatic environment, recreation center or park facility
  • Develop, evaluate and lead programs and activities in an aquatic facility, recreation center or park facility
  • Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals
  • Supervise part-time and temporary employees, including scheduling, coaching and annual reviews
  • Assist with monitoring the assigned center's budget, contracts and compliance
  • Develop and coordinate a wide range of recreation and leisure programs for a diverse audience
  • Assist with development of, maintenance repair of equipment and inventory needs
  • Partner with community leaders to ensure quality programs within the community
  • Secure instructors and/or volunteers for programs
  • Advertise programs via radio stations, flyers, Public Service Announcements, banner, and internet
  • Assist with department events
  • Approve program proposals
  • Complete Monthly safety checklists
  • Communicate effectively with school site administration if located at a satellite site.
  • Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary
  • Collect fees and taking registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals
  • Handle inquiries and complaints from public
  • May serve as the Manager on Duty
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of related experience
Education:
Bachelor's Degree Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?:
Yes Licenses/Certifications:
Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License and County Driving Privileges; CPR/AED and First Aid; Lifeguard Certification; Ability to get Lifeguard Instructor certification and Swim instructor certification within 6 months of hire
Computer Skills:
Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
