This year's River Rangers will have priority for returning next season and should be eligible for unemployment over the winter. River Rangers are stewards of the Greenway- bike path, riparian corridor, pocket parks, responsible for being the public face of the WRWC for Greenway users, encouraging use of this beloved outdoor space, and educating the community about best environmental land management practices. River Rangers work to maintain, preserve, and restore the Woonasquatucket River Watershed and its riparian corridors. We enthusiastically encourage residents-especially Black, Latine and indigenous residents- of communities in the Woonasquatucket River watershed (Providence, North Providence, Johnston, Smithfield, North Smithfield, and Glocester) to apply. Duties and responsibilities : Maintain the Greenway, parks, and natural spaces along the river Work as a member of a team guided by our Field Supervisors Capably operate equipment and use a variety of hand tools, following safety and maintenance procedures (18+) Work a standard work week M-F from 7:00 am - 3:30 pm with some evenings and weekends as scheduled Work with volunteers as available Minimum qualifications : Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean driving record Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions Provide positive work or school references Interest in environmental stewardship, land and landscape management, plants and trees, river protection Skill operating equipment required for landscape maintenance (mowers, line trimmers, etc...) or ability to learn these skills Comfortable driving large vehicles Able to communicate effectively and courteously Favorable criminal background check (BCI)

Compensation :

$19/hr starting pay, 40 hrs-week, seasonal (typically ends late November)

The Woonasquatucket River Greenway is a 7-mile urban trail that runs from Providence to Johnston. WRWC has worked to restore and create parks along the Greenway including Merino Park, the Woonasquatucket Adventure Park, Donigian Park, and Riverside Park. River Rangers work with local government, non-profit organizations, schools, businesses, churches, recreation centers, and the community to revitalize parks, maintain the Woonasquatucket River Greenway, and empower the watershed community through education and shared stewardship of our lands.
