A Pest Control Technician controls problems with unwanted animals and insects in residences, commercial buildings and the areas around them. Inspects buildings, identifies pests and determines pest control treatment. Provides applications of chemical pesticides and sets traps or bait. Makes minor building repairs as needed to keep pests out.
No Phone Calls Please — Open to Local Candidates only; Tulare and Kings Counties Delta Mosquito and Vector Control District protects public health across Tulare and Kings Counties by controlling mosquitoes and other disease-carrying vectors. Seasonal Vector Control Technicians are the front line of that mission, performing field inspections, surveillance, and control work across residential, commercial, and agricultural properties. This is a temporary, at-will, non-benefited position with a maximum of 1,000 work hours per fiscal year. The season typically runs April through November, depending on weather conditions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Inspections and Surveillance Inspect public, residential, and commercial properties for standing water and mosquito development sources Sample standing water for mosquito developmental stages Mosquito Control Apply physical, chemical, and biological control methods to prevent mosquito emergence Calculate, measure, and apply pesticides in accordance with EPA-approved labels Operate hand and power spraying equipment Equipment and Vehicle Operations Clean, maintain, and properly store assigned equipment Safely drive District motor vehicles on public and private roads Complete daily vehicle safety inspections and maintain a clean work vehicle Promptly report mechanical issues with vehicles or equipment Public Interaction and Recordkeeping Interact with the public calmly and professionally during field duties Use mobile data collection devices to record daily activity logs Use mobile mapping applications and paper maps for field navigation Manage time and route assignments effectively in the field Safety and Workplace Follow all District safety policies and wear appropriate personal protective equipment Understand Safety Data Sheets and pesticide labels Assist in workplace cleanliness, including disinfecting counters, sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and organizing shared spaces
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED At least 18 years of age Valid California Class C driver's license with a good driving record Must be enrolled in the DMV Pull Notice Program upon hire Must qualify for District insurance coverage: no major violations, no more than 3 points in 12 months, 5 points in 24 months, or 7 points in 36 months DMV printout required at time of hire Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening Reading, writing, and oral communication sufficient for clear documentation and public interaction Time management and ability to work independently and cooperatively Proficiency with mobile phones, tablets, and laptops Basic mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals Ability to apply concepts of rate, ratio, percentage, area, and volume to practical field situations Ability to learn mosquito life cycles and field identification of genera and life stages Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor in temperatures above 90°F Ability to learn to operate manual transmission
