General Statement of Duties Performs technical paraprofessional civil engineering and supervisory work in the field and in the office; does related work as required. Essential Duties General knowledge of mosquito biology. Knowledge of pesticide application practices, as they apply to mosquito control. Ability to read maps and locate geographically disperse monitoring sites by vehicle. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work effectively with the general public. Capable of extensive record keeping, documentation and database management. Experience using Geographic Information System (GIS) is desirable. Ability to express oneself clearly, orally and in writing. Physical condition that permits one to perform activities including but not limited to: walking long distances, climbing, bending, driving. Ability to acquire certification as a VA Certified Pesticide Applicator, Registered Technician, from the State of Virginia. Assists in adult mosquito surveillance, independent trap setup and retrieval. Mosquito identification using a microscope. Manages in-house testing of mosquitos using the RAMP West Nile Virus Test. Performs field inspections for the detection, control and prevention of mosquitos. Inspects public and private properties for mosquito sources. Applies pesticides as necessary using a variety of hand tools. Operates vehicles and truck-mounted sprayers for the use in treating county right-of-way for the effective control of mosquito larvae. Plant identification using dichotomous key. Maintains necessary records. Performs related work as required. Additional Information The expected hiring pay rate for this position is $23.53. This is an hourly position, and hours will not exceed 29 hours per week. A Bachelor's degree or current enrollment in Biology, Environmental Science, Entomology, Botany or other related subject is preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State of Virginia and must have a good driving record.
