Not Required Program Overview The Aircraft Mechanic II will support the installation of TCTO 1T-6A-876, modifying the T-6A Texan II to install the Automatic Backup Oxygen System (ABOS) at Laughlin Air Force Base in support of the 47 FTW/MX. This position is part of a Contract Field Team (CFT) responsible for executing all required steps ofTCTO 1T-6A-876
(excluding designated FTW/MX steps), installing ABOS modification kits (P/N 133-5034-0001), and ensuring technical directive compliance. The team will install the modification on two aircraft simultaneously while coordinating closely with the Government COR and Flight Training Wing Maintenance personnel. The Aircraft Mechanic II shall: Perform installation ofTCTO 1T-6A-876
in accordance with technical publications, engineering directives, and USAF standards. Execute ABOS modification tasks including structural modifications, wiring harness installation/repair, oxygen system integration, and component installation as assigned by specialty. Support Technical Directive compliance and aircraft modifications in strict adherence to updated TCTO revisions during the Period of Performance. Operate and inspect required Support Equipment (SE) in accordance with USAF safety and operational procedures. Install, route, secure, terminate, and test wiring harnesses (Electrician specialization). Perform sheet metal repairs and structural modifications; prepare and treat surfaces using approved USAF/DoD corrosion preventative treatments (Sheet Metal specialization). Maintain and repair aircraft systems including flight controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, powerplant components, and oxygen/environmental systems as required. Interpret blueprints, manufacturer manuals, and technical data to troubleshoot moderate-to-complex mechanical discrepancies. Utilize specialized aircraft tools including crimping tools (M22520 series), insertion/extraction tools (M81969 series), torque wrenches, micrometers, dial indicators, sheet metal brakes, and shears. Provide input to Maintenance Engineering Changes (MEC), Estimated Cost of Damage (ECOD) documentation, and recommended modifications (MWO) when applicable. Lead small teams during complex installation tasks; mentor and guide Mechanic I personnel. Make accurate entries in aircraft logs and maintenance records as required. Prioritize workload to maintain schedule and meet installation timelines for two concurrent aircraft. Communicate technical concerns, discrepancies, and TCTO clarification requests directly to the site COR. Support TDY travel, if required, to Vance AFB or Sheppard AFB to complete ABOS modifications. Specialization Areas Aircraft Mechanic II•Electrician Experience with electrical TCTO implementation and wiring modification installations. Wiring harness fabrication, troubleshooting, and replacement expertise. Avionics technicians with extensive wiring harness experience acceptable. Experience interpreting detailed blueprints and wiring schematics. A&P certification desired but not required. Aircraft Mechanic II•Sheet Metal Minimum two (2) years aircraft maintenance experience. Experience mentoring or instructing junior technicians. Skilled in corrosion prevention treatments and USAF-approved coatings. Experience preparing aircraft metal surfaces for corrosion protection. Environmental systems and oxygen servicing experience highly desired. Qualifications Combination of experience in engine, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty. Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical troubleshooting and repair procedures. Broad knowledge of sheet metal/structural repair and modification. Basic understanding of electrical theory. Proficiency with aircraft-specific tools and test equipment. Working knowledge of USAF technical publications and TCTO compliance procedures. Ability to lead teams and prioritize workload in a high-tempo maintenance environment. Ability to perform physical aircraft maintenance tasks in flight line and hangar environments.
