General Overview:
This position will primarily perform preparatory and analytical methods within a defined laboratory section or discipline. Assists with troubleshooting of instrumentation, equipment, and analytical methodologies to ensure production goals are met. Assists with required maintenance and repairs as needed by communicating to more experienced staff and management the troubleshooting observations, and records all maintenance performed in LIMS. Responsible for performing basic laboratory testing and analysis in compliance with standard operating procedures. Performs analytical methods by conducting sample preparation and analysis for laboratory instrument/equipment within a laboratory section of discipline, which includes making observations, analyzing data (including any sample preparatory batch information), and interpreting results. Performs analytical calculations and documents results. Enters data in LIMS and maintains raw data records of analysis for review. Assists with troubleshooting of instrumentation, equipment, and analytical methodologies to ensure production goals are met. Assists with required maintenance and repairs as needed by communicating to more experienced staff and management the troubleshooting observations, and records all maintenance performed in LIMS. Assists with reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed or as assigned. Ensures complete compliance with all Environmental Laboratory Services (ELS) SOPs. Monitors consumable inventory for assigned section(s) and enters items to be ordered in LIMS. May perform all ELS Technician level duties This general overview only includes essential functions of the job and does not imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position. Employees will be required to follow any other job-related instruction and to perform any other job-related duties requested by supervisor or management.
Minimum Qualifications:
An Associates degree in chemistry or biology or environmental science or microbiology or engineering with 12 or more college semester credit hours in chemistry plus one or more years of experience as an analyst (or equivalent position) in a laboratory. A Bachelors physical sciences preferred Prior laboratory support/analytical experience or relevant college education
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of hazardous waste materials Knowledge of laboratory safety and environmental policies, practices, and procedures
  • Knowledge of performing sample extraction and analysis
  • Knowledge of quantitative analytical chemistry
  • Knowledge of laboratory concepts, methodology, instrumentation, practices, and procedures Knowledge of electronics and mechanics Knowledge of data entry in office database or software application Knowledge of operating analytical instrument software Skill in meeting deadlines Skill in monitoring inventory Skill in communicating effectively with team members and supervision Skill in verbal and written communication Skill in communicating effectively with team members and supervision/management Skill in planning, scheduling, prioritizing, and coordinating work within assigned work area Skill in complying with ELS safety program, chemical hygiene plan, Quality System Manual, pertinent standard operating procedure (SOP's), and applicable regulatory mandate, standards, policies, and codes pertinent to assigned duties Basic skill level in office productivity applications (such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
) Ability to perform data entry in office database or software application Ability to remain alert and maintain safety awareness Ability to balance competing and high priority work demands Ability to work in a team environment Ability to pay attention to details Ability to stay focused and logical under tight time constraints
Work Environment:
Work hours are primarily spent in a laboratory environment Some work hours are spent in a vehicle or at customer locations Work involves weekends, holidays, and non-standard hours Work involves exposure to noise Work involves the use of protective equipment Work involves handling and inspecting equipment containing hazardous chemicals and wastes Work involves exposure to high-speed rotating machinery Work involves working around areas with pressurized gas and chemicals with the potential for explosion and fire
Physical Demands:
Work involves constant standing and/or walking in standing at lab counters and sinks Work involves frequent finger/hand manipulation in using a keyboard and mouse Work involves frequent finger/hand manipulation in prepping lab glassware, pipetting preservatives, and disposing of samples
  • Frequently lifts and carries up to 80 pounds in moving sample containers, waste drums, and racks of bottles, lifting ice chests and moving supply containers and boxes
