POSITION SUMMARY
The role of the anesthesia technician is to assist the licensed anesthesia care providers in the acquisition, preparation, and application of equipment and supplies required for the safe, efficient and cost-effective administration of anesthesia in any area of the hospital where anesthesia services are rendered.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Experience in a hospital or procedural setting preferred
Preferred:
Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.

A.T.) or Technologist (Cer.

A.T.T.) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification Prior experience in Labor & Delivery or OR environment Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues. Good written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to read, write and speak English Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians Prefer hospital experience
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
6 months
  • 1-year continuous experience in operative nursing and as an anesthesia technician is preferred.
Able to adjust and/or troubleshoot monitoring equipment, and computer equipment. Must be able to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and families in an effective manner. Exhibits tact, enthusiasm, and patience. Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
Responsibilities:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices Clinical Support Assist anesthesia providers (CRNAs and anesthesiologists) during procedures including: Epidurals and spinals for labor analgesia Cesarean sections (scheduled and emergent) Gynecologic surgical cases Prepare and assist with airway management equipment Set up invasive monitoring equipment as directed Equipment & Supply Management Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot anesthesia machines and monitors daily Ensure all anesthesia carts, airway carts, and epidural carts are fully stocked and standardized Maintain readiness of difficult airway equipment and emergency carts Turn over rooms efficiently between cases with attention to infection control standards Medication & Inventory Support Assist with stocking anesthesia medications per facility protocol (non-controlled substances unless otherwise permitted) Monitor supply levels and communicate shortages proactively Maintain organization and cleanliness of anesthesia work areas Labor & Delivery Support Ensure epidural kits, pumps, and infusion supplies are readily available at all times Rapidly respond to requests for epidural placement and OB emergencies Assist with patient positioning and procedural setup under provider direction Emergency Response Respond immediately to emergencies Assist with code situations, including airway setup and medication preparation support Skills & Competencies Strong anticipation and situational awareness in high-acuity settings Ability to function under pressure with rapid task prioritization Excellent communication with anesthesia providers, nurses, and surgical teams High attention to detail with equipment and medication setup

Working Conditions:
The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents. C.
Occupational Exposure:
This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way. D.
