Job Description

The Little Guild, Connecticut's largest no-kill animal shelter, is seeking a compassionate and motivated Animal Care Specialist to join our team. This role is essential to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of the dogs and cats in our care while supporting our mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need. Responsibilities Provide daily care, feeding, enrichment, and exercise for shelter animals. Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for all animals, staff, and visitors. Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any concerns to medical or management staff. Administer medications and follow treatment plans as directed. Assist with adoptions, including introducing animals to potential adopters and sharing information about their needs and personalities. Support intake and adoption processes, including animal handling, assessments, and recordkeeping. Provide excellent customer service and education to visitors, volunteers, and adopters. Collaborate with staff and volunteers to create a positive, team-oriented environment. Qualifications Previous experience in animal care, veterinary, or shelter setting preferred (training provided for the right candidate). Comfortable handling dogs and cats of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Strong work ethic, reliability, and a genuine love for animals. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods. Weekend and holiday availability required.
