JOB TITLE
Art Teacher
JOB DEFINITION
The Art Teacher provides meaningful, accessible visual arts instruction to students with diverse learning, developmental, emotional, and physical needs. The role focuses on fostering creativity, self-expression, fine motor development, social interaction, and confidence through individualized and group art experiences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: 1. Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate art lessons aligned with student abilities, IEP goals, and therapeutic supports. 2. Adapt instruction, materials, and techniques to meet a wide range of cognitive, sensory, behavioral, and physical needs. 3. Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages artistic expression. 4. Collaborate with special education teachers, therapists, and support staff to support student progress. 5. Integrate sensory-based, adaptive, and multi-modal art activities. 6. Monitor and document student participation, progress, and skill development. 7. Maintain classroom supplies, equipment, and visual displays. 8. Support schoolwide events, student showcases, and family/community art exhibitions. 9. Use positive behavior supports and de-escalation strategies as needed. 10. Ensure compliance with safety procedures and facility policies.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
1. Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Special Education, or related field. 2. Valid teaching certification. 3. Experience working with students with disabilities, emotional support needs, autism, or multiple disabilities preferred. 4. Knowledge of IEP implementation and accommodations. 5. Strong classroom management and collaboration skills. 6. Experience with adaptive tools, assistive strategies, and differentiated instruction preferred.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
1. Current, approved Act 34 (PA State Police), Act 151 (PA Child Abuse Registry) and Act 114-FBI Fingerprint clearances are required and must be renewed at appropriate, specific intervals pursuant to Act 153 of 2014 (revised Act 15 of 2015). 2. Current, approved Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training certificate showing completion of a minimum of three (3) hours of training every five (5) years.

METHOD OF EVALUATION
• Annual evaluations made by the principal and/or their designee in accordance with provisions established by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit #29 Evaluation Process for Professional Employees.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
• None
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
1. This is a full-time position based on 185-day teachers' calendar. This includes sick and personal time off. Adjustments to the work schedule may occasionally be required to meet program or organizational needs. Attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor. 2. Must have transportation to work locations.

This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, and have the ability to lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate; visual acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Work is done mainly indoors but could include outside tasks.
