You will work side-by-side with our Carpenter Craftsman, learning by doing and by watching — carrying materials, prepping work areas, assisting with installations, and gradually taking on more responsibility as your skills grow. This is not a gopher job. We want someone with a genuine interest in the trade — someone who pays attention, asks good questions, and takes pride in doing things the right way from day one. Primary Responsibilities Learning & Shadowing Shadow and assist the Carpenter Craftsman across all exterior and interior job types Observe and learn proper installation techniques for windows, doors, siding, decks, and finish carpentry Ask questions — and apply what you learn on the next task Build hands-on skills progressively, taking on more independent work as competency is demonstrated On-Site Assistance Prepare and stage materials before work begins — measure, cut, and organize stock under craftsman direction Assist with exterior work: windows, doors, siding, decks, trim, flashing, and caulking Assist with interior work: trim, molding, cabinet installation, patching, and finish carpentry Support flooring and drywall tasks as directed Handle material runs, tool staging, and site logistics to keep the craftsman focused on skilled work Professionalism & Site Standards Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to work — every day Place a Superior Home Co yard sign in the customer's yard at the start of every job Tarp the work area before any cutting, demo, or material handling Wear shoe covers before entering any interior space Keep the work area clean and organized throughout the job — not just at the end Leave every job site cleaner than you found it — this is non-negotiable Represent Superior Home Co with professionalism in front of every homeowner Team & Communication Communicate clearly with your assigned craftsman and dispatch about any issues, delays, or questions Follow direction without shortcuts — do it the way you're shown until you've earned the trust to do it your way Submit accurate time documentation for every work order Return all unused materials and company property to the yard at the end of each day Comply with all Superior Home Co rules, policies, and Field Readiness SOP Required Qualifications Background & Aptitude Physical & Practical Requirements Trade school training in carpentry, construction, or a related field — OR demonstrated hands-on experience Genuine desire to learn residential carpentry and grow within the trade Ability to read a tape measure to 1/8" accuracy Basic understanding of hand tools and power tool safety Comfortable taking direction and following a structured process Reliable, punctual, and accountable — you show up when you say you will Able to lift and carry 75 lbs unassisted; regularly lift 50 lbs Comfortable working on ladders and at heights Able to work outdoors in all Kansas weather conditions Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Own basic hand tools (tape measure, utility knife, pencil, square) — we will help you build your kit over time Preferred Qualifications These are a plus — not a dealbreaker if you don't have them all. Completed coursework in carpentry, construction technology, or building trades at a trade or vocational school Any hands-on experience: personal projects, family construction work, volunteer builds, or previous construction labor Exposure to power tools: circular saw, drill/driver, miter saw OSHA 10 certification or basic construction safety training Experience using a smartphone app for work orders, scheduling, or time tracking Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required What You'll Learn Working Here This role is designed to give you real, marketable trade skills — not just grunt work. Over time, a committed apprentice at Superior Home Co can expect to develop: Window and door installation — from framing and shimming to weatherstripping and hardware Siding installation and repair — vinyl, fiber cement, and wood, with proper flashing and trim details Deck construction — framing, ledger attachment, decking, railings, and stairs Interior finish carpentry — trim, molding, casing, built-ins, and cabinet installation Building science basics — water management, air sealing, and flashing sequencing Professional job site standards — how to manage a site, work with homeowners, and close a job right Business and trade practices — work orders, materials documentation, and customer sign-off Compensation & Benefits Item Details Base Pay $16.00-$18.00/hr based on trade school background and demonstrated aptitude Pay Schedule Weekly, no later than 5 days after the payroll period ending the prior Sunday Hours Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM with one half-hour unpaid lunch; overtime as needed Health Insurance Available per company policy Expense Reimbursement Out-of-pocket job expenses reimbursed per Superior Home Co policy Employment Type Full-time, at-will employment Growth Path Demonstrated skill and reliability create a clear path toward Carpenter Craftsman pay and responsibilities How to Apply If you're serious about learning a skilled trade and want to work for a company that will invest in your growth, we want to hear from you.
