Job Description:
The Aquatics Program Supervisor collaborates with the Athletics and Activities Director, community, coaches, district personnel, and administration to develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate community pool programming while supporting the district's curricular and extracurricular use of the pool. This position is responsible for establishing a high-accountability, safety-first culture, ensuring all staff are trained, prepared, and operating at the highest standard. This role includes direct oversight and instruction of certification programs, eliminating reliance on outside providers and strengthening internal program consistency.
Essential Job Functions:
Community Use Coordinate the development and scheduling of community aquatic center programs, including swim lessons, open swim, and adult programming. Evaluate enrollments, programs, and services to maximize facility use and efficiency. Serve as the primary point of communication for community members regarding schedules, fees, and offerings. Organize and schedule all pool staff (lifeguards, instructors, cashiers, head guards, supervisors, etc.). Recruit, hire, assign, supervise, train, and evaluate aquatic personnel while maintaining strong staffing levels at all times. Certification & Training Leadership Lead and implement all in-house certification programs, including: Lifeguarding Lifeguard Instructor Training (LGIT) Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT) CPR/AED and First Aid WSIT Courses (2x annually): Conducted twice per year
Current Format:
4 consecutive Saturdays, 8 hours each LGIT Recertification (2x annually): January and June 1 full-day session (8 hours) per offering
Summer Lifeguarding Certification Course:
3 full days (8 hours each) utilizing a blended learning format Submit and maintain all required records through the American Red Cross to ensure staff certification compliance. Maintain accurate tracking systems for certifications, expirations, and staff compliance. Staff Development & Accountability Implement and oversee: Monthly Lifeguard In-Service Trainings (after school, per handbook expectations) Quarterly All-Staff Meetings Monthly Supervisor/Head Guard Meetings Ensure accountability systems are in place to track: Attendance Certification compliance Completion of required trainings Follow and enforce the Handbook of Monthly Staff Meetings and In-Service Training expectations Prepare and monitor budgets, purchasing, and payroll. Maintain systems for tracking fees, attendance, and water testing. Foster strong, positive community relationships. District Pool Use Support and help execute the district's physical education swimming units Coverage of 6+ class periods per day Sustained support over multiple consecutive days or weeks, depending on unit design Provide staffing and instructional support based on curriculum needs. PE support is flexible and unit-based (not daily), and may require: Provide support during flex periods, which represent the most consistently utilized instructional time. Provide daily coverage support by filling in for lifeguards as needed during the school day. Assist and support the athletic department with: Swim meets and aquatic events (8-12 meets annually) Event coverage may occur outside of regular work hours Maintain inventory and readiness of all school and pool equipment. Update Aquatics Program Supervisor (APS) and Pool Employee Handbooks annually to ensure policies reflect current expectations and safety standards. General Responsibilities Establish and enforce all rules and regulations, prioritizing safety above all else. Maintain pool security and train staff on visitor management systems. Collaborate with the district safety coordinator on drills and compliance requirements. Maintain detailed records, including: Incident/accident reports Training logs and in-service attendance WSI and certification records Staff evaluations and behavior plans Pool usage and attendance Ensure compliance with all state regulations and certification standards. Coordinate with regulatory agencies and communicate facility needs. Work closely with the Custodial Operations Supervisor on maintenance, scheduling, and facility improvements. Maintain inventory and oversee all aquatic equipment, including timing systems and scoreboards. Proactively test and prepare equipment to ensure successful meets and events Work Hours Primary working hours occur during the school day, with occasional evenings and weekends as needed based on but not limited to training schedules, certification courses, swim meets and events, program demands. Adjustments to the schedule require prior supervisor approval. Lifeguarding Lifeguarding Instructor CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers First Aid Required or in pursuit of obtaining: LGIT (Lifeguard Instructor Trainer) WSIT (Water Safety Instructor Trainer) Demonstrated ability to: Lead large-scale programming and training systems Develop and enforce accountability structures Manage staff at a high level of expectation Strong communication and organizational skills Proficient in technology and record-keeping systems Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO), or willingness to obtain within 30 days Candidate Requirements Additional Requirements Cover Letter Resume Letters of Recommendation
