Job Description
Job CaptainPosition OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented Job Captain to support delivery of commercial architecture and interior projects, with emphasis on retail, quick service restaurant (QSR), and office tenant work. The Job Captain will lead CAD production, coordinate sheet sets and deliverable packages, and perform QA/QC to ensure construction documents meet firm standards and client requirements. This role requires strong AutoCAD skills, experience with commercial and tenant improvement projects, and the ability to collaborate with design teams, consultants, and contractors.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduce and manage detailed construction documents and drawing sets using AutoCAD; maintain accuracy across plan, elevation, and detail sheets.
Serve as primary Job Captain on assigned projects, coordinating day-to-day production tasks and ensuring schedules and milestones are met.
Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings and specifications to identify and correct discrepancies, omissions, and code or coordination issues prior to issuance.
Coordinate sheet numbering, revisions, and deliverable packages, preparing issue sets for permit submissions, bid packages, and construction phases.
Collaborate with project architects, designers, and consultants (structural, MEP, civil) to resolve technical coordination and interface issues.
Manage drawing file organization, layer standards, and adherence to the firms architectural drafting standards.
Develop and maintain project-specific details, schedules, and finish plans for retail, QSR, and office tenant improvement projects.
Support project estimating and material takeoffs as needed; communicate constructability concerns and cost implications to project leadership.
Assist in production transmittals, responses to RFIs, and incorporation of redlines and as-built information into drawings.
Mentor junior drafters and coordinate with external CAD/BIM resources to ensure consistent deliverables and sheet coordination.
QualificationsMinimum 4+ years of architectural production experience with demonstrated Job Captain responsibilities on commercial projects (retail, quick service restaurant, and office).Proven proficiency in AutoCAD with a strong command of CAD standards, layer management, and plotting/deliverable preparation.
Experience performing QA/QC on construction documents and resolving coordination issues with consultants and contractors.
Strong understanding of commercial tenant improvement workflows, permit submittal processes, and construction administration tasks.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Effective communication skills for internal coordination and client/consultant interactions.
Nice to have: Experience with Revit and BIM coordination workflows to supplement CAD deliverables.
Nice to have: Background preparing comprehensive deliverable packages, sheet coordination, and adherence to architectural drafting standards.
Nice to have: Familiarity with producing tenant improvement details and working knowledge of materials and construction methods relevant to retail and QSR fit-outs.
