Job CaptainJob Description This Job Captain role focuses on producing high-quality construction drawings and details for a wide range of building types, including multi-family and mixed-use developments, commercial projects, warehouses, industrial facilities, groceries and supermarkets, retail spaces, and fast-food establishments. You will work across all phases of architecture, from project inception through completion, using Revit and AutoCAD to develop comprehensive construction documents. The position offers close collaboration with the principal architect, significant exposure to diverse project types, and a clear path toward project management responsibilities and career growth within a small, agile firm. Responsibilities Produce detailed construction drawings and documents for multi-family, mixed-use, and commercial buildings, including warehouses, industrial facilities, grocery and supermarket projects, retail spaces, and fast-food projects. Use Revit and AutoCAD to efficiently create accurate construction documents, details, and drawings. Participate in all phases of architecture from inception through completion, including schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration. Conduct and support site surveys and occasional site visits to verify existing conditions and coordinate field information with construction documents. Coordinate with external consultants and internal team members to ensure cohesive and accurate project documentation. Research and interpret applicable building codes as needed to ensure compliance in design and documentation. Contribute to schematic design and design development, translating design concepts into buildable solutions. Communicate effectively with internal staff and external parties, including clients and consultants, to support project progress and resolve design or documentation issues. Manage smaller to mid-sized projects, including interacting with clients, supporting project schedules, and helping to keep project cycles on track. Support the principal architect with coordination efforts, project oversight, and mentoring junior staff as needed. Produce construction drawings quickly and accurately while maintaining quality and consistency across project deliverables. Essential Skills 3-8 years of architectural experience, including 3-5 years working for an architecture firm. Proficiency in Revit with the ability to produce construction documents efficiently. Proficiency in AutoCAD with strong drafting and documentation skills. Demonstrated ability to produce construction drawings quickly and accurately. Experience with multi-family residential, commercial, office interiors and fit-outs, restaurants, warehouses, and similar project types. Strong architectural drafting skills and familiarity with construction documentation processes. Experience working across schematic design, design development, and construction documentation phases. Ability to coordinate with consultants and collaborate effectively with internal team members. Strong communication skills for interaction with internal staff, clients, and external partners. Experience with commercial and mixed-use projects, including production and drafting for construction. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using SketchUp for design or visualization. Background in healthcare, office fit-outs, modular construction, supermarkets, and other diverse commercial project types. Exposure to and interest in all phases of architecture, from conceptual design through construction administration. Ability to work independently in a smaller firm environment and take ownership of assigned projects. Interest in developing into a project management role and managing projects from start to finish. Capability to mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative studio culture. Work Environment This is a small architectural firm of approximately seven employees, led by a principal architect who founded the practice in 2002. The firm works on a wide variety of commercial building projects and currently has a strong pipeline of multi-family and warehouse work, along with healthcare, office fit-outs, modular projects, supermarkets, and other commercial assignments. You will design and draft smaller to mid-sized projects with typical project cycles of about 3-4 weeks for smaller jobs, offering a dynamic, fast-paced environment with significant responsibility and variety. As a Job Captain, you will manage smaller projects, interact directly with clients, coordinate with consultants, and support the principal architect while also helping to mentor junior staff. The firm values independence and does not rely on micro-management, providing a structure that supports rapid career growth and a clear path toward project management. Standard hours are approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with flexibility depending on individual needs. There is potential for hybrid or remote work flexibility, typically 1-2 days per week, for the right candidate. The environment emphasizes hands-on learning, close collaboration, and exposure to all aspects of architectural practice, supported by daily use of tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, and other design and production software. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Olive, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $43.26/hr.
