Build with precision. Merrill Construction Group is a Nashville-based residential Design + Build firm built on craftsmanship, honesty, and exceptional client experiences, from the first sketch to the final walkthrough. We are looking for a Principal Architect to lead architectural design and technical documentation from concept through permit-ready construction and serve as architect of record on every applicable project. This is a role for a licensed architect, or a license-eligible architect with an immediate path to licensure, who wants real ownership. You will set the design standards, assume stamping authority when legally and organizationally approved, mentor the design team, and work directly with clients to turn their vision into a buildable, beautiful, code-compliant home. Our standard is exceptional spaces delivered on time, on budget, and at the quality promised. What you will own Lead and review complete architectural drawing sets for every project, including as-built and proposed site plans, electrical plans, foundation plans, floor plans, elevations, drainage plans, details, schedules, and supporting documentation. Serve as architect of record, seal and stamp construction documents, and own code compliance, accuracy, and life-safety integrity. Conduct code and zoning research, manage permitting and jurisdictional coordination, and prevent incomplete or unfeasible projects from advancing. Set, document, uphold, and improve architectural design, drafting, and quality-control standards. Review and mentor the Technical Designer and other design contributors before work is released for permitting or production. Coordinate with civil, structural, and geotechnical engineers and landscape architects so every design is fully integrated. Present design concepts directly to clients and translate their objectives into beautiful, buildable, cost-aware, code-compliant homes. Partner with the Director of Design, Interior Designer, Estimator, Field Operations Manager, Partnership Coordinator, production team, consultants, and clients. Assist in selecting and approving windows, doors, and architectural millwork and respond promptly to field questions and design revisions. You may be a strong fit if you Are a licensed architect able to stamp applicable construction documents, or license-eligible with an immediate path to licensure. Bring residential Design + Build or luxury residential remodeling experience with strong technical drawing, code, zoning, permitting, and constructibility skills. Are fluent in CAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite. Can manage multiple projects, protect deadlines, maintain accurate records, and take ownership of each drawing set carrying your stamp. Are a natural leader who mentors generously, communicates directly, welcomes feedback, and improves processes collaboratively. Value thoughtful problem-solving, confidentiality, craftsmanship, accountability, and the experience of clients and teammates. Are based in or willing to relocate to the Nashville area. What success looks like 95% or higher drawing-set accuracy with minimal field correction. 100% of submitted projects receive permit approval without avoidable rejection. 90% or higher on-time delivery of permit-ready drawing sets and design decisions.
