Job Description

Job Overview GradeTec is looking for a dependable Crew Lead / Working Foreman to help run our paving, grading, and site work crew in the Soldotna/Kenai area. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can work alongside the crew, keep people moving, communicate clearly, and take pride in doing clean, professional work. The right person should have experience in asphalt, grading, equipment operation, trucking, or general civil construction, and be comfortable helping plan the day, solving problems in the field, tracking quantities/time, and making sure the job is done safely and efficiently. We are a growing local company, so this is a good opportunity for someone who wants steady seasonal work, responsibility, and room to grow with the business. Responsibilities Lead and work alongside GradeTec's paving, grading, and dirt work crew on residential, commercial, and small civil construction projects. Help organize the daily work plan, assign tasks, keep the crew moving, and make sure the job is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. Operate and assist with equipment including asphalt pavers, rollers, skid steers, dump trucks, motor grader, grinder/reclaimer, compactors, and hand tools as needed. Oversee asphalt paving, gravel prep, fine grading, driveway work, parking lots, patching, RAP installation, and related site work. Help check grades, layout, quantities, material needs, truck flow, and jobsite conditions before and during the work. Coordinate with the owner, crew members, truck drivers, suppliers, subcontractors, and customers to keep jobs organized and productive. Watch for problems in the field, including grade issues, drainage concerns, equipment problems, material delays, or quality concerns, and help solve them before they become bigger issues. Maintain a strong focus on safety, clean workmanship, equipment care, and professional conduct on every jobsite. Track daily crew time, equipment use, materials, trucking, production, job notes, and any changes or issues that come up during the day. Communicate clearly with the owner and crew about job progress, needs, problems, and next steps.+ Experience Experience in asphalt paving, grading, dirt work, site prep, parking lots, driveways, patching, or similar civil construction work. Ability to lead a small crew while also working hands-on in the field. Experience operating or working around equipment such as asphalt pavers, rollers, skid steers, loaders, dump trucks, motor graders, grinders/reclaimers, compactors, and small tools. Strong understanding of jobsite safety, production, equipment care, and quality workmanship. Ability to read basic job notes, understand grades and drainage, follow project scope, and help keep work moving efficiently. Mechanical aptitude and the ability to help identify equipment problems, perform basic troubleshooting, and communicate repair needs. Prior crew lead, foreman, operator, or lead laborer experience is preferred. CDL is preferred but not required. Experience driving dump trucks, towing equipment, or coordinating trucks and materials is a plus. Must be dependable, willing to work seasonal hours, able to communicate clearly, and comfortable taking responsibility for getting the job done right. GradeTec is a growing paving, grading, and dirt work company based in Soldotna, Alaska. We take pride in clean workmanship, practical problem-solving, and building a crew that works hard and looks out for each other. This is a good opportunity for someone with real field experience who wants to take on more responsibility, help lead jobs, and grow with a local company. If you know how to keep a crew moving, care about doing good work, and aren't afraid to jump in wherever needed, we'd like to hear from you.
