  • finding smarter, better ways to deliver value for our clients Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Equipment Operator to support civil construction and earthwork operations across a variety of projects throughout Maine.
This role is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment in support of site development, utility installation, and substation construction. This position plays a key role in building critical infrastructure, including earthwork, grading, trenching, and material handling. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with civil construction equipment and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity in the field.
Key Responsibilities Equipment Operation:
Safely operate heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, and rollers in support of civil earthwork and site development projects Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material placement to meet project specifications Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and project layouts Work around underground utilities and structures with precision and care
Site Execution & Safety:
Follow all safety protocols and contribute to a culture where safety is the top priority Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance to ensure proper operation Coordinate with supervisors, laborers, and other operators to maintain efficient workflow on site Maintain awareness of surroundings, including personnel, equipment, and changing site conditions
Quality & Productivity:
Ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently in accordance with project plans and specifications Assist with site preparation, erosion control, and general earthwork activities Adapt to changing project needs and support multiple scopes of work as required
Team Contribution:
Work collaboratively with field teams to meet project goals and deadlines Support and mentor less experienced team members when appropriate Contribute to a positive, professional job site environment
Qualifications Experience:
2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment in civil construction, earthwork, or site development required Experience with utility installation or substation work preferred Strong understanding of excavation and grading practices
Skills:
Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and efficiently Familiarity with grade control, site layouts, and construction plans Strong attention to detail and situational awareness
