Pinnacle Paving is looking for an experienced Finish Grade Operator to take ownership of asphalt prep on our residential and commercial projects throughout the Flathead Valley. We're not looking for someone who simply knows how to operate equipment. We need someone who understands grade, drainage, compaction, elevations, and what it takes to turn a site into a finished product that's truly ready for asphalt. This is a skilled position for an operator who can be given a project, understand what needs to happen, and execute without being constantly supervised.

WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

• Perform rough and finish grading for asphalt paving projects
• Operate a skip loader, skid steer and excavator proficiently
• Establish and maintain elevations using grade lasers and GPS grade control systems
• Set/check grade and maintain proper slopes for drainage
• Prepare subgrade and crushed aggregate base to paving tolerances
• Understand proper placement, moisture conditioning and compaction of soils and crushed aggregate
• Identify soft areas, unsuitable material, drainage problems and grade discrepancies before they become paving problems
• Excavate, place, grade and compact materials as required
• Coordinate prep work with paving crews, trucking and project leadership
• Perform daily equipment inspections and take pride in the equipment you're responsible for
• Work independently and take ownership of getting projects completely ready for the paving crew

EXPERIENCE WE REQUIRE

This is NOT an entry-level equipment operator position.

Candidates must have:

• Proven finish
• grade experience
• Skip loader experience

• Experience working from a grade laser
• Experience with GPS grade-control technology
• Strong understanding of elevations, slope and drainage
• Strong understanding of soil and crushed aggregate compaction
• Ability to work independently and solve problems in the field
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Strong work ethic, dependability and ability to work as part of a team

ASPHALT EXPERIENCE A

strong background in asphalt paving preparation is highly preferred. We're especially interested in candidates who understand the difference between simply making something look flat and preparing a base that is properly graded, compacted, drained and ready to pave. Experience preparing driveways, parking lots, roadways and commercial sites is a major advantage.
