Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Asphalt Foreman to lead our paving crew. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all daily on-site asphalt operations, managing a team of operators and laborers, and ensuring that all paving projects—ranging from commercial parking lots to residential driveways and roadways—are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate must have extensive hands-on experience in asphalt paving, a deep understanding of paving equipment, and the leadership skills necessary to direct a crew while actively participating in the work to ensure a flawless finish.
Key Responsibilities Site Leadership & Management:
Direct, supervise, and coordinate the activities of the asphalt paving crew on job sites. Ensure daily production goals, material yields, and project schedules are met.
Site Preparation:
Oversee and assist with site prep, including milling, sweeping, grading, and the proper application of tack coat before paving begins.
Asphalt Application & Compaction:
Manage the placement of asphalt. Ensure correct operation of the paver (screed operation, augers, depth, and pitch) and establish proper rolling patterns for optimal compaction and density.
Hands-on Execution:
Step in to assist with luting, raking, and edge detailing as needed to ensure seamless joints, proper water drainage, and a smooth, aesthetically pleasing finish.
Quality Control:
Monitor asphalt temperatures upon delivery and during placement. Continually check yields, thickness, and slope to guarantee the final product meets project specifications and company quality standards.
Equipment Management:
Oversee the safe operation, daily maintenance, and cleaning of all paving equipment (pavers, rollers, skid steers, milling machines, etc.).
Safety Compliance:
Enforce strict adherence to OSHA safety regulations and company safety policies. Conduct daily "toolbox talks," manage traffic control setup (if applicable), and ensure the crew uses appropriate PPE.
Communication & Reporting:
Calculate material needs, track asphalt tickets, provide daily progress reports, and communicate directly with the plant, truck drivers, and management team.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in asphalt paving (commercial and/or residential).
Leadership:
Minimum of 2+ years in a supervisory or Foreman role managing a paving crew.
Technical Skills:
Mastery of asphalt paving techniques, including understanding different asphalt mixes, temperature control, joint matching, and compaction requirements.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform heavy physical labor, lift up to 50+ lbs., and work outdoors in various weather conditions (extreme heat, fumes, etc.).
Driver's License:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL Class A is highly preferred).
Blueprint Reading:
