GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Join the Wyoming Department of Transportation as an Asphalt/Chemistry Technician! Are you passionate about ensuring quality in transportation systems and making a real impact in your community? The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is looking for a detail-oriented Asphalt/Chemistry Technician to join our team in Cheyenne, Wyoming. As an Asphalt/Chemistry Technician, you will take on a crucial role in performing materials testing for asphalt and chemistry sections. With minimal supervision, you will ensure that all materials meet stringent specifications, contributing to the safety and durability of our roadways. Your responsibilities will include following AASHTO, ASTM, and WYDOT standards, conducting engineering analysis, and providing data for product acceptance and design. In addition, you'll be involved in training and guiding junior team members, ensuring that the department's work maintains the highest standards. FUNCTIONS

Performs materials specification compliance testing for product acceptance in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and WYDOT test procedures Quality acceptance testing of emulsified asphalt, hot mix asphalt, performance-graded asphalt, crack sealant, wire fencing products, paint (traffic, structure), cement, concrete (chlorides, water), soil, and aggregate Performs materials testing for engineering analysis including specialized/research testing, AASHTO resource, and CCRL proficiency samples Performs test procedures during AASHTO resource and CCRL onsite inspections to maintain laboratory AASHTO resource and CCRL accreditation Assists in field materials investigations and sample collection Trains temporary employees to perform specification compliance testing and monitors their work; Demonstrates procedures (test, safety) Trains/assists field personnel Cleans, maintains, operates, repairs, calibrates, and standardizes test equipment to comply with AASHTO resource and CCRL requirements Keeps work areas clean and ready for use Makes recommendations for needed supplies, inventory, and equipment maintenance Receives, logins, prepare materials for testing, and determines testing requirements Prepares/maintains/archives test records Maintains a paper archive of test results including original documentation and computations for future reference in case of disputed test results
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of testing procedures, test methods, equipment operation, and maintenance; materials characteristics; laboratory safety, hazardous materials, and waste handling Skills in time management, organization, communication (technical writing), mathematical accuracy (algebra), and computer use Ability to communicate; train/direct/assist temporary employees; read/understand/implement new/existing test procedures Knowledge of safety procedures
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Civil and Environmental Engineering)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (Transportation occupational group and Laboratory) with acquired knowledge at the level of a
