Job Description

Open to the general public, Plumbers and Pipefitters (Local 367) members, and any current Municipal Employees. This position is represented by the Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local 367, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

4/10s - Monday to Thursday / Tuesday to Friday - 6:00 am to 4:30 pm
LOCATION
: 325 E 94th Court Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps. Internal applicants currently working under the Plumbers & Steamfitters (Local 367) Collective Bargaining Agreement Local union dispatched applicants External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement Under general supervision performs the full range of carpentry duties, including residential, commercial, and industrial carpentry; woodworking, metal working, drywall, windows, doors, insulation, flooring, cabinetry, concrete work, painting (painting on an incidental basis and not to exceed 48 hours in any 30 day period), and finishing. Performs preventive maintenance work on utility buildings and facilities. Requires familiarity with basic utility operations, as this position is exposed to all aspects of water and wastewater treatment, distribution, and collection processes. Performs facility snow plowing in the winter and landscaping in the summer. Utilizes a basic working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems to work with other skilled trades to troubleshoot and repair a variety of utility equipment and facilities. Uses a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to schedule, track, and perform maintenance duties. Reviews and interprets plan sets and other drawings and prepares materials estimates. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWU's disaster plan matrix, which defines each employee's potential duties and responsibilities. This may include 12-hour work shifts, which may continue for 72 hours or more, starting at any time an event might occur, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day. High school diploma, GED, or the equivalent, and five (5) years of journeyman level experience. OR High school diploma, GED, or the equivalent, and completion of a certified apprenticeship/technical training program from an industry recognized technical training institution (union, university/college and/or trades), and three (3) years of journeyman level experience, to equal five (5) years of experience.
Must posses and/or obtain:
Satisfactory background check that includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire. A valid State of Alaska Class A Commercial Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire. Satisfactory drug screening at time of hire. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant. For information on acceptable driving history, please refer to the MOA Driving Conviction Guidelines. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory drug screen prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the satisfactory review and completion of the Previous Employer Alcohol & Drug Test Information Forms. Names, addresses, and phone numbers for positions that required Department of Transportation testing for the last two years will be required in compliance with § 40.25 and § 382.405 (f) and (h). All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment. As a condition of employment, the applicant selected must provide their Union Dispatch Referral Form by the time of hire. Military Service Interview Preference Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration. Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration. The Municipality of Anchorage is an Employer of National Service.
