The University of Alaska Fairbanks, in partnership with the Directorate of Public Works at Fort Wainwright, is seeking a full-time Carpenter (CT1) to join our skilled team. This entry-level position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and rapid response multiple craft projects across Fort Wainwright facilities. The technician will assist with inspections, construction, and general facility upkeep while adhering to strict safety protocols.
The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience in construction, maintenance, or a related field, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Must be physically able to lift up to 70 pounds and work safely in various environments, including areas with potential hazardous materials. A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain military installation access clearance are required.
This role supports safe, efficient, and sustainable facility operations within a military environment under the UAF Environmental Community Partnership. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and meet all military installation requirements
This Carpentry position is part of the Environmental Community Partnership between the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) and the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) at Fort Wainwright. The role supports facility operations by performing routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure within a military environment. The position helps maintain critical facility systems contributing to a safe and resilientmunity.
To thrive in this role, applicants should have hands-on experience in construction, maintenance, or related fields, with a strongmitment to safety and attention to detail. Successful candidates will be able to work independently and collaboratively, effectively prioritize tasks, andmunicate clearly with supervisors and team members. Physical stamina and the ability to handle tools and equipment safely are essential. A willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic military facility environment will help ensure ongoing success.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires apprentice level or other equivalent certification appropriate to the specific trade; with a minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalentbination of education and experience. Demonstrate 3 years related construction and/or carpentry experience. High School graduate or equivalent. Must possess or be able to obtain within 6 months, a State of Alaska 16 Hour Certificate of Fitness and or certification for (abating) (performing operations and maintenance tasks on) asbestos containing building materials. Must be able to pass initial and annual OSHA asbestos physical. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
