GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Master Carpenter is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing the construction, installation, maintenance, and strike of scenic elements for six mainstage productions throughout the season. Working closely with the Technical Coordinator, Production Manager, designers, and other production staff, the Master Carpenter oversees all scenic fabrication activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. This position supervises overhire carpenters, volunteers, and other scenic labor as assigned, providing leadership, training, and quality control throughout the build process. The Master Carpenter advises production leadership on construction methods, materials, scheduling, and staffing needs to ensure successful execution of all scenic designs. In addition to production responsibilities, the Master Carpenter assists with facility operations, maintenance, and capital improvement projects during off-season periods and times of reduced production activity. Duties may include building repairs, equipment maintenance, shop organization, storage management, and other operational projects that support the theatre's ongoing needs. The ideal candidate possesses strong carpentry and scenic construction skills, excellent organizational and supervisory abilities, a commitment to workplace safety, and the flexibility to support both production and facility operations as needed. Physical requirements may include but not limited to lifting up to 50lbs independently, up to 100lbs with assistance, as well as working at heights on ladders, scaffolding, lift equipment, and in the fly system.

COMPENSATION & STRUCTURE
  • Salary range: $49,500-$52,000
  • The position is full time, non-exempt
  • Reports to: Production Manager
  • Direct Reports:
    Overhire carpenters
  • Key Collaborations:
    Core Leadership Team, Production Team, and Artistic Teams for each Redmond Stage show
  • This position typically works Monday through Friday in person, 8am-5pm; evenings as needed.
