Job Title:
Commercial Carpenter Job Description This role focuses on commercial carpentry work, including steel stud framing, drywall installation and finishing, and acoustical ceiling systems on new construction and interior fit-out projects such as medical office buildings, retail spaces, and office environments. You will work as part of a small crew under the guidance of a foreman, contributing to high-quality, safe, and efficient completion of commercial construction projects. Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to understand project specifications and layout requirements. Perform selective hand demolition in preparation for new construction and fit-out work. Execute wood rough carpentry tasks, including framing and structural preparation. Complete millwork and finish carpentry, ensuring clean, precise, and professional finishes. Hang drywall and perform taping, spackling, and finishing to deliver smooth, paint-ready surfaces. Install metal stud framing for walls, partitions, and other structural elements in commercial spaces. Install ACT (acoustical ceiling tile) systems and other acoustical ceiling assemblies according to specifications. Install doors, frames, and associated hardware accurately and securely. Use a variety of hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete daily tasks. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including regular jobsite cleanup and debris removal. Collaborate with 1-2 other carpenters and a foreman to complete new construction and fit-out projects on schedule. Follow all site safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety protocols. Essential Skills Proven experience in commercial carpentry, including work on medical office buildings, retail spaces, and office fit-outs. Hands-on experience with steel stud framing in commercial environments. Proficiency in drywall hanging, taping, spackling, and finishing. Demonstrated ability to install acoustical ceilings and ACT ceiling systems. Capability to perform wood rough carpentry and basic framing tasks. Experience installing doors, frames, and associated hardware. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings. Skilled in the safe use of hand tools and power tools on construction sites. Ability to work effectively as part of a small crew under the direction of a foreman. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with both new construction and interior fit-out projects in commercial settings. Familiarity with commercial remodel projects, including office and retail environments. Comfort working on a variety of project types, including medical office buildings, retail, and office construction. Typical work hours are approximately 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with schedules driven by project needs. You will work closely with 1-2 other carpenters and a foreman, with crew size varying depending on project scope. The broader field team consists of around 100 personnel, including superintendents, carpenters, and labor staff, who maintain a cooperative and friendly work culture. The dress code includes high-visibility clothing, jeans, a hard hat, and safety boots, reflecting a strong emphasis on safety and jobsite readiness. Daily work involves frequent use of hand tools and power tools and requires adherence to construction safety standards in an active jobsite environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of St. Charles, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $37.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
