- Job Description This role supports a large student housing dormitory construction project by performing a wide range of carpentry and general construction tasks that keep the project on schedule.
You will work closely with the superintendent and project team to complete both rough and finish carpentry, assist with installations, and help bring the project to a high-quality finish on an active university campus. Responsibilities Perform general carpentry work including framing, blocking, backing, and layout for new construction. Execute rough and finish carpentry tasks such as trim work, cabinetry-related work, and general build-out activities. Assist with installation of doors, hardware, trim, and miscellaneous finish work throughout the project. Install and work with metal studs, formwork, and other structural components as needed. Support punch list items and final construction tasks as directed to prepare the project for turnover. Read and work from basic drawings, blueprints, and layout requirements to complete assigned tasks accurately. Safely operate hand tools and power tools, including tape measures and other measuring devices, to perform precise work. Handle concrete, drywall, and general labor tasks associated with commercial construction as required. Coordinate daily activities with superintendents, foremen, and other trades to ensure smooth workflow and project progress. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite, including proper storage and handling of tools, materials, and equipment. Follow all site safety requirements, project procedures, and company policies at all times. Consistently report to the jobsite on time and prepared to work a full shift in an active construction environment. Essential Skills At least 2 years of commercial construction or carpentry experience. Previous experience on multifamily or student housing projects strongly preferred. Strong working knowledge of carpentry tools, materials, and methods, including both rough and finish carpentry. Ability to read and work from basic drawings, blueprints, and layout requirements. Proficiency with hand tools and power tools used in carpentry and general construction. Ability to take direction from supervisors and work independently when needed. Reliable transportation and consistent attendance to support full-time work on a long-term project. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks in an active construction environment. Commitment to following all safety procedures and maintaining a safe work area. OSHA 10-hour Construction certification or the ability to obtain it within a reasonable timeframe. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with framing, blocking, backing, and layout in commercial construction settings. Hands-on experience with rough carpentry, finish carpentry, and trim work. Experience in installing doors, door hardware, and related components. Experience working with metal studs, drywall installation, and formwork. Ability to perform general labor tasks in addition to skilled carpentry work. Familiarity with cabinetry-related tasks and hardware installation in new construction. Comfort working on large, fast-paced commercial projects such as student housing or multifamily buildings. Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with superintendents, foremen, and other trades on site. Detail-oriented approach to completing punch list items and final finish work. Work Environment This is a full-time role supporting a long-term student housing dormitory construction project on an active university campus in West Palm Beach, Florida. You will work both indoors and outdoors in a commercial construction setting, frequently moving between different areas of the site. The environment is fast paced and physically demanding, requiring regular lifting, carrying, and use of hand and power tools. You will work closely with other trades and site leadership, following established safety procedures and site protocols throughout each shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of West Palm Beach, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
