at Department of Corrections in Ina, Illinois, United States Job Description Position Overview Illinois Department of Corrections is looking to add a journeyman-level carpenter to their Maintenance team located at Big Muddy River Correctional Center. This individual should be able to estimate jobs, materials, and time as well as prioritizing these tasks in accordance with the needs of the facility. They will ensure the duties are completed in a safe and organized manner. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply. Essential Functions Repairs and performs maintenance work on buildings and equipment. Performs general carpenter work in the repair, maintenance, construction or alteration of floors, walls, roofs, stairs, benches, doors, windows, or other similar structures. Instructs and supervises in the carpenter shop. Instructs helpers and inmates in general carpentry trade tasks and supervises manual workers. Builds and erects wood scaffolding or forms needed for concrete construction projects and repair of existing structures. Sharpens, maintains, and checks all assigned tools. Perform incidental pattern making or cabinet work. Obtains job costs, estimates and submits them to the institution's Stationary Engineer Chief Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of those duties Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school. Requires completion of an approved apprenticeship program to qualify as a journey level carpenter.
