Commercial Carpenter Job Description This role offers an experienced Commercial Carpenter the opportunity to work on a wide range of interior fit-outs, remodels, and ground-up commercial construction projects. You will perform steel stud framing, drywall installation, interior door and hardware installation, flooring, and general carpentry tasks, while also supporting basic demolition and light plumbing and electrical work as needed. The position requires strong blueprint reading skills, a commitment to job site safety, and the ability to maintain a clean, organized work area. Responsibilities Perform commercial carpentry work on interior fit-outs, remodels, and ground-up construction projects of various sizes. Install and align steel stud framing for walls, partitions, and other structural elements according to project specifications. Hang, finish, and repair drywall, ensuring smooth surfaces and proper joint finishing. Install interior doors, frames, and hardware with precision and adherence to manufacturer specifications. Assist with installation of flooring systems, including preparation, layout, and finishing as required by the project. Carry out general carpentry tasks such as rough and finish carpentry, trim work, and installation of various building components. Perform basic demolition activities safely and efficiently, removing existing materials and structures as needed. Support light plumbing and electrical tasks under the direction of qualified trades, including basic fixture and component assistance. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project documents to plan work and ensure accurate execution. Use hand and power tools safely and effectively, including tape measures, saws, drills, and other construction equipment. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site, including proper storage of tools and materials. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to OSHA standards. Collaborate with other trades, supervisors, and team members to coordinate tasks and meet project timelines. Monitor work for quality and accuracy, ensuring craftsmanship meets project and company standards. Adapt to changing project needs, schedules, and conditions while maintaining productivity and professionalism. Essential Skills At least 5 years of overall carpentry experience, including a minimum of 2 years in commercial construction. Proficiency in steel stud framing for commercial projects. Hands-on experience with drywall installation and finishing in commercial environments. Demonstrated experience with interior fit-outs, including build-outs and tenant improvements. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and construction documents. Experience working on both remodels and ground-up construction projects. Basic knowledge of light plumbing and electrical work sufficient to assist other trades. Proven experience installing interior doors, frames, and hardware. Strong understanding of job site safety practices and procedures. Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively, including tape measures, power saws, drills, and related equipment. Solid work ethic, reliability, and consistent attendance. Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to different tasks and project types. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality craftsmanship. Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting, standing, climbing, and bending. Comfort working in commercial construction environments, including occupied spaces and active job sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 10 Certification. CPR and First Aid Certification. Lift or equipment operation certification. NCCER Certification. Experience with multiple flooring types and systems. Expanded knowledge of commercial construction trades beyond carpentry. Familiarity with general labor tasks on commercial construction sites. Experience working with metal studs and finish carpentry in commercial settings. Ability to build and install trim, doors, and other finish components with a high level of precision. Comfort working with power tools and construction equipment in a fast-paced environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Urbana, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $33.00/hr.
