The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an "at-will" relationship. This opportunity applies to applicants legally eligible to work in the United States. Duration This position is funded for up to 400 total hours.
Duties:
Enrollee will be leading and working alongside the park staff to complete carpentry preservation tasks on various wood framed or log buildings within the Park. Work will include the repair and preservation of elements such as wood decking and stairs, framework, logwork, rafters, walls, doors, paneling, window frames, interior and exterior trims, flooring, and roofing. Must be able to improvise with materials and supplies available because of distance from supplier. Following oral instructions, blueprints, work orders, and/or field sketches to lay out carpentry work, select the proper tools, determine the necessary materials to be used, and accomplishes the work in accordance with appropriate trade methods and accepted practices, and in conformance with NPS cultural resource guidelines. 50% Provides expert training and mentoring to other trade craftspersons. 50%
Qualifications:
Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in carpentry, historic preservation OR AA Degree in Carpentry and other trade crafts Comprehensive knowledge of carpentry techniques and tools for performing preservation work on woodelements. Ability to remove portions of walls, partitions or other similar structures and repair in-kind.

Ability to remove, repair, or fabricate doors and windows. Ability to read and interpret drawings,blueprints, and specifications and independently determine the required/desired layout and work sequences.

Comprehensive knowledge of wood and wood substitute materials and construction techniquesand knowledge of the properties of various grades and species of lumber and other wood products suchas plywood, chip board, paneling, etc.

Knowledge of and ability to use common hand and power tools associated with carpentry, construction andbuilding trades work. Comprehensive knowledge of traditional tools and materials used by craftsmen inconstruction of various historic buildings and structures. Thorough knowledge and compliance of OSHAregulations/procedures (29 CFR 1910 and 1926), NPS and park specific safety rules, policies andprocedures as well as various code requirements applicable to construction and building trades.

Health and Safety Considerations:
Other trainings as available consistent with job tasks, including but not limited to:general jobsite safety, Fall Protection, Scaffolding, Lead Safety, Crystalline Silica,respiratory protection training Chainsaw Training, OSHA 10/30 HR, hand and power tools,personal protective equipment (PPE), etc. Driving of any NPS vehicle will require Defensive Driving training. Job Hazard Analysis review will be performed as a part of all projects, before andduring implementation. The candidate will need to be familiar with JHA process.
Required Safety Gear:
The enrollee will be required to wear and maintain personal protective equipment, as the workrequires, including but not limited to, hard hats, safety toed boots, gloves, goggles, face shields, fall protection harness, hearing protection devices, Tyvek suit, and a variety of respirator types. The enrollee will be required to work off the ground on ladders, scaffolds and on the structuralframework of buildings. Power tool and hand tool use is central to this position, accordingly PPE and any other related safety equipment will be required for all tool use. Chemical and physical hazards on the jobsite will require the use of certain PPE. Physical requirements: Bending, lifting, pushing,pulling, climbing, and carrying items up to 30lbs; working in outdoor conditions of extreme heat orcold; sunlight, uneven surfaces, dusty/windy conditions, working with and around heavy machinery,and in conditions of loud noise.
