Non-Exempt, Full Time Summary:
Coordinates residential construction activities on-site by leading and instructing volunteers, and partners through all phases of residential new construction. Individuals must have a broad knowledge of construction practices and equipment and tool operation. This position requires a strong construction background as well as a strong commitment to the mission and purpose of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge, Inc. (HFHGBR). Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Construction Projects:
  • Works independently or in conjunction with volunteers and partners on projects assigned by Construction Director
  • Monitors the progress and quality of craftsmanship as construction tasks are completed on-site
  • Ensures that safety guidelines are met on-site and that all volunteers and partners adhere to safe construction practice
  • Provides volunteers and partners with tools and materials needed to complete construction activities
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervises, instructs, and coordinates volunteers and partners.
  • Trains and instructs volunteers and partner families to complete construction tasks ensuring that volunteers are given meaningful work appropriate to their skills
  • Assists in homeowner education program by instructing partners during construction classes
Reporting:
  • Updates Construction Director on project status and material procurement needs during daily construction meetings
Communication:
  • Coordinates and communicates with volunteers, partners, and staff involved in construction projects
  • Performs "service calls" for new and existing Habitat homeowners to correct construction problems and update status with the Construction Administrator.
Minimum Requirements:
    Education/Experience:
    § High School diploma or GED § Minimum of 3 years of residential or commercial construction experience § Certification in First Aid and CPR may be required upon hire
      Language Skills:
      § Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety manuals, operating and maintenance guides, procedure manuals, and house construction plans § Ability to speak effectively before vendors, subcontractors, groups of volunteers, and/or staff of the affiliate. § Must be a strong leader and communicate well with others
        Transportation:
        § Must have dependable transportation and provide a valid driver's license § Individuals must have a clean driving record to operate company vehicles and tow work trailers

        • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; Lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.
        • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme heat, when working on construction site(s)
        Work Schedule:
        • Required to work 40 hours/week. Tuesday- Saturday
        • Must be flexible to work extended hours during accelerated build projects
