Job Title:
Lead Carpenter / Mechanic - Commercial Interiors (+$36/HR) Job Description This role leads and performs commercial interior construction work with a strong focus on cold-formed metal framing, drywall installation and finishing, RF foil installation, and acoustical ceiling systems. The Lead Carpenter/Mechanic ensures high-quality workmanship, accurately interprets construction documents, and coordinates daily activities with project stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient, and timely project execution. Responsibilities Perform precise layout and installation of 16-gauge cold-formed metal framing systems for commercial interior projects. Oversee and perform drywall hanging, taping, finishing, and punch-list completion to meet project quality standards. Install RF foil and other specialty wall and ceiling assemblies in accordance with project specifications and manufacturer requirements. Install acoustical ceiling tile (ACT) grid systems and ceiling tiles with a high level of accuracy and finish quality. Review and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and project schedules to plan and execute work effectively. Coordinate daily work activities with project management, superintendents, subcontractors, and other trades to maintain workflow and meet deadlines. Ensure work complies with project requirements, safety standards, and applicable codes throughout all phases of construction. Identify and communicate material, equipment, or manpower needs to project leadership to keep the job progressing smoothly. Inspect completed work, address deficiencies, and complete punch-list items to ensure a clean and finished final product. Essential Skills At least 5 years of commercial carpentry experience, specifically in commercial interior construction. Proven proficiency in cold-formed metal framing, including layout and installation of 16-gauge systems. Extensive experience in drywall hanging, taping, and finishing for commercial interior buildouts. Strong skills in installing acoustical ceiling systems (ACT), including grid and tile installation. Hands-on experience with commercial interior buildout projects from framing through finishes. Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and project schedules. Capability to coordinate work with project management, superintendents, subcontractors, and other trades. Solid understanding of interior construction methods, materials, and best practices for commercial environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications Demonstrated ability to take a lead role on site and guide daily carpentry activities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes. Effective communication skills for collaborating with field and office teams. Organized and self-directed approach to planning tasks and meeting deadlines. Work Environment This position is based on a commercial jobsite in Reston, VA, working Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The work takes place in an active construction environment involving interior framing, drywall, and acoustical ceiling installations. You will work with typical commercial carpentry tools and equipment, handle materials such as cold-formed metal framing, drywall, RF foil, and ceiling tiles, and collaborate closely with other trades on site. The role requires being on your feet for most of the shift, working around construction noise and dust, and following all site safety practices and any project-specific attire or personal protective equipment requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jessup, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $37.00/hr.
