Essential Job Duties Are you a skilled carpenter who takes pride in quality craftsmanship and creating functional, well-built spaces? We are seeking a talented Carpenter to join our Building Maintenance and Operations team . In this role, you will perform a variety of construction, renovation, repair, and installation projects that support the upkeep and improvement of campus facilities. Your work will directly impact the appearance, safety, and functionality of buildings and spaces used every day. This position is ideal for an experienced trades professional who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and delivering high-quality results. Key responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to: Perform carpentry work related to renovations, repairs, alterations, and construction projects, including the installation and finishing of drywall, ceilings, flooring, cabinetry, countertops, and related building components. Install and repair doors, windows, trim, millwork, hardware, partitions, and other interior and exterior building features. Modify and reconfigure existing spaces by removing or constructing walls, installing partitions, and making structural and non-structural alterations to support facility needs. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work orders to ensure accurate project execution and compliance with design requirements. Utilize a variety of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment to complete projects safely, efficiently, and with a high level of craftsmanship. Identify facility-related issues associated with renovation and construction activities and recommend practical solutions to support project objectives. Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and other trades personnel to coordinate work, resolve construction challenges, and ensure projects are completed on time and within scope. Maintain compliance with applicable building codes, safety regulations, quality standards, and material specifications. Apply knowledge of carpentry and related building trades to support facility maintenance and construction efforts while contributing to a collaborative team environment. Safely climb and work from different types of ladders to access elevated or below-grade areas (such as roofs, above-ceiling spaces, and utility pits). Be exposed to and work in areas where insects or small animals are occasionally present. All essential tasks must be performed with or without reasonable accommodations. Perform lifting duties up to 30 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public, and follows verbal and written instructions related to work assignments and operational needs. Other Responsibilities This position is considered Mandatory to the operations of the University and may be required to report to work under adverse weather conditions. Position may assist in the removal of snow under the direction of the supervisor. Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities. Qualifications Minimum Experience/Education High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.Optional Guidelines:
Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a university setting to renovate building space by installing and finishing drywall, ceiling systems, flooring, cabinetwork and countertop installations Demonstrated experience with interior renovations, drywall finishing, ceiling systems, doors, hardware, cabinetry, flooring, and space reconfiguration projects. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and construction documents. Experience working collaboratively with multiple skilled trades in a facilities maintenance, construction, or operations environment. Required License or Certification Must have a valid driver's license Must be able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire and it must be maintained Valid NC Driver's License required Yes Commercial Driver's License Required?
