Job Title:
Skilled Carpenter Job Description This role offers an opportunity for experienced carpenters to support a growing commercial construction and facility services organization. You will work on restoration and renovation projects for local retail, food service, and commercial customers, primarily restaurants and similar establishments. The position is largely first shift, with hours that may vary based on customer needs, and requires flexibility to work occasional night shifts with advance notice. You will travel with a team to project sites across NY, NJ, DE, and PA, performing a wide range of construction, repair, and maintenance tasks. Responsibilities Perform skilled commercial repair, maintenance, and project work at retail, restaurant, and other commercial facilities. Self-perform and complete construction-related tasks including framing, drywall installation and finishing, painting, door and frame installation, and hardware installation. Execute finish carpentry tasks to a high standard of quality and detail. Install and repair various building components using hand tools and power tools in accordance with safety and quality guidelines. Interact professionally with construction directors, project managers, construction foremen, and office staff to coordinate and facilitate completion of assigned tasks. Provide accurate material takeoffs for each assigned task to ensure proper planning and procurement of materials. Implement and enforce safe work practices on all job sites, following company policies and industry standards. Apply a practical understanding of electrical design and practices as they relate to general construction work. Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including work orders, reports, and documentation related to each project. Travel regionally with a team in company vehicles to job sites in NY, NJ, DE, and PA, supporting renovations and repairs of restaurants and other commercial locations. Support emergency service calls as needed, traveling to job sites promptly and following established procedures. Maintain and use personal tools appropriately, ensuring they are available and in good working condition for each assignment. Contribute to a positive team environment by communicating clearly, collaborating with colleagues, and supporting shared project goals. Adapt to varying schedules, including first shift hours and occasional night work, based on customer and project requirements. Essential Skills Proven experience as a skilled carpenter in commercial or residential construction environments. Strong general construction knowledge, including metal framing, drywall installation, drywall finishing, painting, floor and wall tile installation, and acoustical ceiling tile (ACT) ceilings. Hands-on proficiency with framing, drywall, finishing, painting, doors, frames, and hardware installation. Experience with finish carpentry and field service work in active commercial facilities. Ability to read, understand, and apply basic electrical design concepts as they relate to general construction tasks. Competence using hand tools and related construction equipment safely and effectively. Valid driver's license required for regional travel and operation of company vehicles. Ability to travel regionally and work a flexible schedule, including occasional night shifts. Capability to provide accurate material takeoffs and plan work based on project requirements. Strong work ethic with the ability to perform industrial and general labor tasks as needed in a construction setting. Why Work Here? Work Environment You will travel regionally with a team in company vehicles to job sites in NY, NJ, DE, and PA. For standard travel, drivers are paid from the start of the trip, while passengers begin paid time after the first hour and then rotate roles on the return trip. For emergency calls, both drivers and passengers are paid from the moment travel begins. For jobs located two or more hours away, per diem is provided, with additional per diem for very distant assignments. Work is performed in active commercial environments such as restaurants, banks, and retail spaces, requiring adherence to safety practices and professional conduct at all times. Attire should be appropriate for construction work in customer-facing commercial facilities, with a focus on safety gear and practical work clothing. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burlington, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $26.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
